also keep in mind the PCM is going to do what it takes to achieve a 14.7 A/F. There's a trick to it as many people of done it, but I'm not sure what the next step would be

you should also be able to remove the cam and run a straight edge through there also to make sure everything is straight. But you'll also be able to tell by the wear of the cam journals.
