anyone running stock axles?

Post by gtownv6 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 1:30 am

Track is opening up soon so I'm gonna go have some fun in the neon. Just worried about how my axles are going to hold up. Mods are bolt on srt swap on meth, t350 3.94 trans, clutchmasters 4 puck, LSD and 205/50/15 slicks. 2step will be set around 4500; Should I pack some spare axles?

I think you'll be fine as long as you know how to launch, but I would bring a set just in case :D

I'd definitely bring a spare set. Much easier than ruining your day because you snapped one and don't have a replacement.

Except the axles you get at parts stores tend to suck. Lifetime warranty is nice unless you break them every few passes.

Learn to launch, slicks help. I ran stock 1g axles for years until I broke my first one 2 years ago on 6k clutch dump on slicks and fresh prepped track. I went 2 feet. Car was running low 13's. Rocking OEM PT axles now.

I agree with Jake. :withstupid:

I know another Neonite, who had his replacement axle (from AutoStoned) break, shortly after he installed it.
That's when he found out, that the rebuilt axle CV, was BLUED. As in, being overheated blue.

The rebuilder should have discarded that axle, rather than use it.
But I guess when you employ a workforce that doesn't care, or doesn't know, and smokes too much 'mota' or ganja on their breaks before returning to work, etc.,....we can expect sub-standard parts, to end up getting re-circulated.... to unsuspecting buyers.

Get what you pay for, when a rebuilt axle is only $35, you can't expect high quality parts and a high quality worker spending time checking it all over. Just a guy slapping together cheap parts.

Just remember, if you get wheel hop let off the gas... A slammed car also puts extra wear and tear on half shafts.

I ran stock axles on my srt at the strip, no issues.

Edit:

I guess I should add that I have the advance auto lifetime warranty axles.. Best 70 bucks I spent per axle
