This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Oil used- Penz. Platinum 5W-30
Filter- Purolator Pure One PL10241
Miles driven on this filter- 4500

Overall it seems like it's a pretty good filter, and I will continue using them. I have been since I bought the car at 30,000 miles (51000 current), and they never gave me problems.
Good to see!

I used to run Fram in my early days. Switched to Mobil 1/K&N filters for a while. Lately all my cars run the Pure One. The price of a Fram with the quality of the M1/K&N.

Pros:

More filter area.
More oil.

Cons:

Size, perhaps?

To compliment Polygon's post...

Pro: More oil - possibly dissipates a little more heat.

Cons: More oil. (Tho when buying a 5 quart jug this isn't much of an issue) If your engine consumes more than you would like between changes, it cuts into your reserve.

And size, depending on ground clearance (vertical) and tool clearance for removal (horizontal).

I know it's not exactly related to the oil filter comparison at the top of this thread, but I think the data and analysis in this Toyota Tacoma/Toyota Tundra oil filter comparison might be interesting to car owners anyways. There are lots of photos, some hard data, and some interesting info on general oil filter design.

I realize it was created by a Toyota dealer, but it seems like they tried to be unbiased.

Anyways, I liked it.

I guess I'm the only one that uses a Motorcraft FL-910S.

Takes the challenge of guessing what filter i need when i go shopping because it's the same filter that my focus uses.

I prefer the Mobil1 filter myself with the synthetic media in it... oil quality seems to be good out to 10k miles at a time (using synthetic oil as well)... but I agree, just as procey as the K&N.
