Another engine mount/strut question...

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Another engine mount/strut question...

Post by jklnhyd » Sat Sep 13, 2014 10:15 am

Yesterday, i bought Napa upper/lower strut mounts and a center engine mount.
I immediately noticed that the bolt hole is plastic, compared to aluminum in my OEM part.

Questions:
1) is there a readily available part that is aluminum?
2) is the Mopar part aluminum or plastic?
3) is the plastic aftermarket part "just fine"?
4) if the anchor/belkamp mounts are ok, is there a recommended torque spec for the plastic bolt hole?

I drove to O'Reilly last night and checked the Anchor brand, also has the plastic bolt holt connector thing.

Return the plastic POS and get a Mopar mount, or other performance oriented if you want it to hold up to the specified bolt torque. The plastic just crushes when you try to tighten it.

BOOM!!
Took me the whole day,100 degrees here, but i got it done! I can feel that the a/c is on, but theres not a vibration.
I went to Dodge, got mopar parts. Spent $375 for the 2 strut mounts and the center. I am so glad i did. Now that i have done it, i wouldnt put those others on if they were free.

Thanks guys for the motivation.

When removing my wheel, i noticed that the caliper is rusted, and the inside of the wheel is pretty dirt laden. Guess i have something to do tomorrow.

The :quotes: Mushroom Factor :quotes: applies to our cars as well. When wrapping up fixing/repairing one thing, I always seem to find something else that needs attention.

:withstupid:

I am REALLY surprised (AND disappointed) that Napa would be selling such a thing.
Are these the 'Anchor' brand mounts ??

Hopefully, Napa also carries other brands as well.

The NAPA parts are listed on their website as Balkamp.
I also went to O'Reilly and asked for the Anchor Brand and they looked identical to the Napa Balkamp product.

Neither one has a brand name stamped on them, so actual manufacturer is unknown.

Left-New Mopar center mount (part# 5086709AC)
Right-Old Mopar mount that was removed

The original was not in bad shape, a little movement and a tear.

Left-New Napa (balkamp ) part# 6022069
Middle-Strut that was replaced-failed
Right-New Mopar (part#5274903AD)

Top-New Mopar strut (part#5085121AC)
Middle-Napa Balkamp strut (part# 6022068)
Bottom-strut that failed

The PO, judging by the Title, bought the vehicle 20k miles ago. He told me that he had the mounts replaced. Judging by the pictures above, the upper and lower struts are all that were replaced, and failed somewhere within those 20,000 miles.

Wow, you spent $350 on those 3 mounts? I think torque struts upgraded from modern are $150?

Looked at the prices, AGP dogbones are $132, the mopar ones are $64 and $76 from them.

No wonder they call them the stealership.

How are AGP dogbones an "upgrade"? Arent they a solid bushing? I dont want none 'o that.

I saw the Mopar cheaper but i wanted to get it done this weekend. And i like to see stuff before i buy it, so its a tradeoff i guess.

And yeah, i tried to find how to post the pics, but cant find anything saying how to post em, so idk.

Oops, I didn't give you any help with my post- sorry about that. Do you have an account with photobucket? You can host photos there and then link them on this site.

It looks to me like he tried it the right way. Maybe the forum software is thrown off by the "~" part with the resolution after the .jpg. I do not use photobucket so I am not sure how those links usually look like.

I had to post a URL to get it to show, meh.

There is a vibration when i initially shift into Drive and especially reverse. I will do the Tranny mount next weekend and see what happens...

I bought some of those from Napa a few years ago and they were metal. I guess they have changed supplier since.

My right side motor mounts are... WAY worse... I'm pretty sure the inner bolt flange is completely detached. The rubber is totally shot and dry rotted... I suppose it's really time to take care of that..
