cooling issue

Post by contagious18 » Mon Oct 13, 2014 11:07 pm

well my 00 had a heating issue and so i decided to change the thermostat thinking it would resolve the issue. i notice that the car would heat up really quick and the fan will not turn on at all. the temperature doesn't seem to go above normal (yet). What can I do to determine if its a bad fan? or maybe its something else. Any input is greatly appreciated.

you can turn the a/c on to see if the fan comes on if you have it

Jump the fan relay in the fuse box under the hood with a paper clip . Don't leave the clip in too long it will vet hot and cause problems but it works to see if the fan works and if the wiring is ok. Try it. I've done it many times on my neons.

If there is a short bad enough to heat the paper clip, the fuse for the fans will be already blown. Check the fuses first, then pull the relay and jumper it. If the fan runs, it could be a bad relay, or a ECT/PCM issue. If it does not run, then pull the fan connector, and check for voltage with the relay socket jumpered. If there is no voltage, there is a wiring issue from the PDC to the fan. If there is voltage, then the fan motor is likely bad.
