T350 1/2 Sychro

Post by xXB00ST3DXx » Mon Apr 07, 2014 9:33 pm

I have a t350 that grinds going into 2nd in high rpms & have came to the conclusion that it's the synchro. Now the problem I'm having is locating just a synchro. I've been to the dealership, aamco, and various other trans shops and all they could do for me is get me a complete input shaft assembly which is pretty pricey and not the route I wanna go. I've read on here that us t350 guys would need to wait till parts begin to get remanufactured again or just get a trans from the junkyard. I was just wondering if someone could clear some of this talk up or lead me into the direction I should go. Again I would only want to get a synchro and only want to get a rebuilt or junkyard tranny if there is no other option.

First off, the 1-2 synchro is on the output shaft, so that's likely the shaft that you must buy whole since it's "non-servicable".

2nd, if you haven't read through the FSM or ever taken a t-350 apart, I wouldn't recommend trying to without the Miller pallet fixture. There's lots of special tools needed to take them apart.

I do have good 1-2 synchros and parts, all used now as we ran out of the last few new ones Ed Peters was able to get from his source. But the ones I sell are pretty much new as far as wear goes. Let me know if you want one or if you would prefer a fully rebuilt one for $550.

Sorry for being off-topic, but is he from northern Indiana? I know an Ed Peters who has been with Chrysler up here for forever.

No, he lives in Texas and has been retired from Chrysler for years. Does lots of tech talks when Modern has their meets and also did a few for the national Neon meets. Got a few videos on youtube.

Same source yes. I have plenty that are like new. Most of the time the 1st gear fibride is about new or within .004" of being new. So those end up being installed. Otherwise buy an output shaft from Chrysler for 800 or a brass chinese version in the $300 rebuild kits.

At least the input shaft stuff is still available. Likely until 8 years from last pt cruiser made with t350. Then they aren't legally required to have any. Like the t850. No more oem 3-4 synchros, machinery was all sold.

when you say chinese brass kits, do you mean like the early t350s with the brass syncro's? that doesnt sound like a bad option. unless by chinese you mean they're junk

Junk. As in made in china and a whole rebuild kit is 300 bux. When fibrides for 3-5 and reverse run $200 from dealer, input shat seal is 80, and each bearing behind rear cover runs $75. Plus those kits come with even more parts.

In reality there never were any "available", only as a complete output shaft assembly. We were just able to get them from a special source I guess you could say.
