Shifter question.

Post by BR4ND0NW4YN3 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 4:20 pm

04 SXT ATX on my shifter (P,R,N,D,3,1) what exactly do the 3 and 1 do? I thought at first they locked out overdrive but yet in both positions it goes through all 4 gears with a difference in the RPM shift points. Is that all its supposed to do?
...Yeah that's a KISS sticker in my back window.

3 and 1 are used for towing.
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.

You can leave it in 1, and it will shift through all the gears. It was called "Maximum Acceleration Mode" in the '94 Dodge Shadow owner's manual. IDK if there is a reference to in in the neon manuals.

The shift points will be delayed until the higher RPM's, but it should shift. Your rev limiter will keep things in check if it doesn't.

The Shadow didn't shift into 4th until ~85 mph, so don't try this in the city, or where you could crash, get a ticket, etc....

This is why I get mocked for patiently sitting at a red light, not revving my stock exhaust, and driving normally.
