Wheel bearing.

Have some questions about how to achive better handling and stopping power using different springs, upgrading to coilovers, questions on swaybars, bushings, different rotors, pads, ect... Having any steering problems or questions about steering racks, tie rods, tie rod ends, ect... ask these questions here.

Wheel bearing.

For the past 4 years. I have to change my passenger hub assembly due to bad wheel bearings. It's getting to the point where it won't even last a year now. It's just money being thrown away with worn out tires and changing the hub. Any idea why I'm having this problem? I'm getting an alignment done right now but that can't be the issue to the wheel bearings can it?

The ground straps for the wheel bearings always seem to break.

I made my own replacements - Hopefully, they will last longer than the factory items did.

FWIW, I have over 200,000 on the original bearings without any ground straps.

Have you replaced the half shaft on that side? Some of the aftemarket units don't machine the transition from the splines to the axle nut threads properly. The washer hits the shaft instead of the hub surface, so the bearing is not held in it's proper position. I would even check with an oem shaft.

You can check it by just slipping the washer over the stub while in the hub, and pushing against the hub. Then slide the stub outward with your other hand. If you can feel the stub pushing the washer away, you will have to bevel the inside of the washer.

Had this issue on my Mom's Caliber. It kept eating wheel bearings. Two different shops and a Five Star Dealer couldn't fix the problem. They just pressed the bearings and slapped it together. If they checked for wheel looseness afterwards, I have no Idea, but it was pretty obvious by just grabbing the tire after torquing the nut. Not sure how they did a proper alignment with two wobbly wheels and called it good.

Independent shops, maybe, but not a Five Star Fail...

I 'repaired' the factory ones, by lengthening them where they broke, and added a wire lug.

If I remember this the next time I am in the garage, I can take a picture later and post it up.....
