Rear door applique have any rubber or sealer on it?

Post by protivakid » Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:28 am

Had my door repainted by the body shop and they took everything apart. Noticed it was leaking around the area where the small plastic Part #3 is on the below diagram. I pulled the part off and it looks like at one time there was some rubber or perhaps sealer behind it, but now it's just mostly plastic. Does anyone know if there is any type of rubber gasket or sealer that was used on this small part from the factory?

That's what my plan is but I was just wondering if from the factory there was ever anything there.

probably some butyl rubber or other sealant. You could probably get away with using some "dum dum" tape.

I want to do this right so no tape here. Btw jelly of how clean your 1st gen is. I need to restore mine once I get a garage to work on it.

Anyone else know if there was any oem sealer/rubber there?

dum dum tape is not really tape it is sticky type putty that does a good job of fixing pretty much anything that needs sticking and sealing.

Thanks on the compliment. She needs some work the paint on the mirrors started lifting.

I have a set of those c pillar covers in a parts pile. There is a bit of rubber on the backside where it meets the door. .

Thanks bud! I ordered a new one as they are only $20, hopefully that with some sealer will take care of any water issues.
