Yes, I did use the duplicolor clear coat. And from what Bill is saying that might be part of the problem. Plus, I am no expert at paint thus contributing to the problem

It's cheap, and will probably hold up better than rattle can paint.

If I had a compressor, and some sort of air drier, I would probably get a spray gun to do that sort of thing, but all that adds up. Eventually I will get a compressor that will be able to handle various things...

So I got the 3 items you listed. Then when I got home I realized the can of clear said its ready to spray. No need for hardner nor reducing it. Um OK.

Interesting...

Usually you only have a certain amount of time to use paint that has hardener in it.

At least you should be able return the hardener, etc.

So I actually returned all 3. Since I've already wasted this much time I decided I would just buy the regular automotive clear coat and stop trying to cut corners for the clear coat.

Yesterday I ended up sanding down that thin layer of cleao coat down to the base coat again.

Tomorrow early morning with humidity low I will reclear using regular 3 part automotive clear. Clear, reducer and hardner.

Well guys I think I finally used some awesome clear coat. Expensive but worth it. $25 a can. I used 2 cans. Have a third one. Can dripped in 2 spots but that doesn't bug me.

Hey my fellow 2gn family. I've contemplated starting another project log but why. It'll be less confusing if I just continue this log. So here goes.

So for a recap. The red acr needed a paint job. I found a good clean 99 rt up in Michigan 2 December's ago and picked her up.

The red acr did get stripped and sold finally to another neon guy who I think is turning that shell into a dirt track car.

So here goes for the new to me 99rt shell.
New interior carpet. New maddog short shifter. Using the 99rt door panels that were in it because I liked them more.

Suspension wise the coilovers are swapped over.
I painted the calipers blue and bought drilled/slotted rotors. SS brake lines.

engine bay was rattle canned with 2k clear.














i found this to be cool.my ACR never had this trunk pull.







someone on facebook is making 3d printed seat inserts so i bought some and will be putting them on when i get the car back home.

engine is in. notice the timing cover is back on this time. on the E-Bay i found a NOS inner and outer timing cover so i just had to buy it because i knew that this time i wanted that protection.

I don't. Hahaha. I'm paying a fellow friend/neon guy to do everything for me. I don't have time to do that big of a swap/build anymore myself.

so your 2 year 2 month update is a new plate? Thats it??? Last pictures showed a new motor torn apart in the engine bay and the car all apart. I am sure more things have happened to it in 2 yearS?

i will start slow with the pictures as there are many. lets start with the day i went to pick it up which was this past christmas. now i hadnt had the car in over 2 years. i forgot how low it sat and i did not take a low car friendly trailer. so it took us 2ish hours to load it on this trailer via pulling/pushing and tugging.



yeah finally on the trailer.

it was late when we got back home so we had to drop the trailer off and leave the neon on it. well the next day i go back and it was way easier to get the neon off the trailer then it was to get it on. we had all kinds of wood to use to get it off to give us plenty of clearance. dropped off at my buddys place then picked back up on a Uhaul obviously. which BTW is more low car friendly than i ever thought.

Yes. Its been taken care of. And hasn't been driven on the road in about 5 years. I don't plan to drive it during salt months so hope I can keep it in as good shape as you see.

when i finally got it back into my garage for me to finish her.






so lets start by posting about the ugly intercooler stencil job someone previously did. i like a nice clean intercooler look myself so i did my best on it. and here she is.

I got an aftermarket intercooler for the Elantra N and it had a ghetto stencil on it, I used klean strip stripper. did an okay job but not nearly as good as yours

Yes slow progress as I don't want to upload everything in one take. Plus I have to get on my computer to post pictures etc which takes time.

Little back story. Remember my buddy Tim was the one doing the work for me. We'll it still wasn't done and I was tired of waiting so I went and picked up the car during christmas and been putting in time ever since on getting it all back together and running. As of this week it's running and idling. Going to take it for it's first test drive this weekend.

As for the intercooler. I used a generic drill attachment wire wheel. At first I didn't think it would work but the paint came off easy. Then I used again generic drill attachment buff pads and some mothers mag/aluminum polish to shine up the intercooler. All stuff I got from harbor freight.

I didn't go hard with the wire wheel. Just barely had it on the fins there and the old paint dusted right off.

ha. i was able to drive it to the gas station the other night. sure does feel good to be boosting again. it will be getting dyno tuned sometime soon as with the new turbo and setup it needs adjusted. but here she is.
not much left to do to it besides new window tint and need an alignment bad.
