Would have replied sooner but I had a lot of homework recently. Ok so this Poly-UV clearcoat method was also mentioned here:

viewtopic.php?t=60736

What I want to know is this: What is the difference between a Poly-clear and a gelcoat? Is the gelcoat (somewhat) flexible? Will the poly-clear crack if the hood flexes a bit?

I know next to nothing about body shop stuff.

That gel coat is really thick compared to clear coat I assume they use gel coat to protect the cf and so it wont. Crack easily so what u are doing with the clear is u are protecting the gel coat! You Are not replacing it

I want to get this hood back in shape, I'm working on the trans swap this weekend and will be doing some cleanup to the car in general. This car used to look good once :/
