I am also guessing the GT model has a revised gear ratio for performance too.

:withstupid: PCM's and TCM's are what make modern automobiles so efficient, and perform so well. The new Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 Dodge Charger
with an 8 speed transmission, accelerates better than the old 5.7 liter hemi Dodge Charger with the 4-speed automatic. This miraculous evolution
is from 2006 to 2014 !!!

I don't even want to examine the contrast between my old 1972 Plymouth Satellite with a 400 cubic inch V8 engine (bought new), with my current
2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 with a 144 cubic inch inline 4 engine

My 440 powered 1972 Charger got an average of 20 MPG, so has technology really came that far? I bet even with today's PCM's they won't come close to a 15% gain on that with the same aerodynamics, weight and displacement.

These little subsub compacts still don't match the fuel mileage of the Festiva, which my not so small nephew cat get 54 highway with a carburetor.

Can the newer stuff out accelerate either? Probably, but the fuel mileage is still eluding them, or they just don't really want to hit the numbers they actually can. Given that the power output per cc of fuel has improved, you would think they could be putting down much better economy numbers.

Edit: The Charger was also an automatic. Granted, the 2.45:1 FD did contribute to the fuel mileage, along with the butt load of torque to push those gears... But still, for the huge amounts of money invested, they haven't really made correlating fuel economy progress. Or like I suggested, they don't want the cat out of the bag, because once it is, they will be stuck. EPA would rape them.

Off-topic but my '95 Neon usually got mileage in the high 30's on a regular basis and had plenty of scoot to boot (MTX). My parent's '73 Fury sedan got around 18 MPG which I thought was pretty good at the time for a full-size V8 with an ATX.

When the Plymouth was new, I was young and gasoline was 25 cents/gallon. I owned a house and two cars, and had only two kids.
My wife was able to be a full-time homemaker. I enjoyed racing the car as F/SA on the two drag strips within driving distance.

 Cheapest I remember it being was around $1.10 a gallon or so. Crazy how gas skyrocketed in the past 20 years.

I had a job pumping gas when I was about 18- I think that it was maybe 75 cents for leaded and a little more for unleaded.

9/11/1980?

Gas was easily over a dollar a gallon in the mid eighties. It did dip for a very breif period to 64 cents a gallon. I recall being elated to have filled my other '72 Charger up for under $20.

(I had three Chargers)

No, I only sold one of them. The other two were road casualties. Tho rust played a bigger part of the '71's demise, since it was using the steering shaft to hold the front end up after being run off the road by a dumbass pulling a huge trailer with his 1/2 ton pick up truck. The car literally buckled. The guy probably did me a favor.

 I wonder if FCA would have had trouble selling a more affordable car, like a SRT Dart, to compete with Ford Focus ST.

Dodge/Chrysler news

Joe Cecconi's Parts Manager was let go
Chris Swiatowy AKA BlackRoseRacing was dismissed as the dealership is planning on going a different direction

I'm sorry to all, I've been holding out letting my 2GN family know, but my place of work for 13 years decided that they are going a different direction and let me go. I've been out of work for a week now trying to figure out my next direction. My Chrysler superiors are shocked of what has happened along with some of my long dedicated tech's that I have worked with for over 10 years.
At this moment I'm working on trying to get my name back up into Chryslers profile, but with the lack of 4years of College training I my not be able to get back to where i was before the knowledge that I had no training.
With any luck at all, due to my experience with Chrysler product and design, along with technical engineering, I may be able to get back to work for the only company I ever truly worked for and thats Chrysler/Mopar
I hopefully wish things will work out and I'll be back working Mopar/Chrysler soon...

After dealing with so many crappy dealerships in central Indiana over the years, there are businesses here who would be lucky to have you.

I'm truly sorry to hear this ... I've been there, so I know how hurt and discouraged you feel at this point in your life. Try to emphasize your managerial
experience, not just the "Chrysler background" in your search for a new opportunity.

SRT Viper production halted amid slow sales

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2014032 ... /140319753

Some are pointing fingers across town blaming modest SRT Viper sales on the Chevrolet Corvette. The Vette recorded 2,261 sales in January
and 2,438 in February, for a total of 4,699 units over that same time period.

Kind of old news, but I will post anyways.
Chrysler, and, by extension, Dodge, SRT, and Plymouth are famous for offering ludicrous looking special editions of their cars with little or no actual performance upgrades. The Challenger Hellcat may be different though, in a conversation with Ralph Gillies, SRT’s CEO, Hot Rod Magazine is reporting that the hottest version of the Challenger may get a juiced up engine capable of quieting the 640 horses and 600 ft-lbs of torque offered in the SRT Viper.
.
We've already heard the Challenger Hellcat will be “absolutely sinister" with "stupid power," but it appears it could outgun the SRT Viper.
Speaking to Hot Rod Magazine, SRT CEO Ralph Gilles said "We have a situation where ... the flagship car is not the most powerful car in our arsenal." He declined to go into specifics but noted "We have an internal horsepower race as well as an external one."
While Gilles didn't mention any numbers, the SRT Viper has an 8.4-liter V10 engine that develops 640 bhp (477 kW) and 600 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque. This suggests the Hellcat's supercharged 6.2-liter V8 will produce more than 640 bhp (477 kW) and some reports have even suggested the output could be as high as 700 bhp (477 to 522 kW).

Whaddya get when Fiat facelifts a Daimler-designed Charger? A Charger that looks like a Dart. Not that this is bad but that was my first reaction to the pics.

Why can't they bring back the original charger and just put in a decent engine? :banghead:

If you painted the "crash bar" the same color as the body, it wouldn't look nearly as bad.
I am not into the front end at all, the way it sits. But being it is out of my budget, I really don't care.

I also like it though maybe not as much as the current (2014) model's styling. I'm sure that it will grow on me. Face it- this is an old car (DCX design) so Chrysler Group has to keep freshening it until the next gen is ready to be released.
