How do you get the cover off the top of the dash to get to the dash speakers?

Remove the A pillar trim, the screws on each end by opening the doors, the two in the top center defrost outlet, and lift up.

I think that's about it, going from memory. Been a while since I have done this. I need to remove the cluster and replace some burn't out bulbs, but I really don't/wont have the ambition until it maybe gets a bit warmer out.

any idea what size those speakers are?

If I go to the junk yard and pickup a factory CD player from a Neon will it hook up with out any mods, also are there any other Chrysler/Dodge/ Plymouth CD players that will interchange with my 02 Neon?

most 02-05 dodge vehicles had the same radios and they interchange.
00-01 will not work

The 00 -01 will work, if you use an adapter for the plugs, but factory CD players are probably much harder to find for pre 2002 neons anyways. (There are the higher end models tho)

My '01 had a factory CD player from a 2002 or newer when I bought it. Due to the annoying quirks it had, I pulled it and went aftermarket.

It wouldn't play half my commercially made CD's, but would play anything I have burned. It then got to where it wouldn't eject the CD's, and the sound quality of the aftermarket HU's is much better anyways.

IIRC, the factory "tweeters" are listed as 3.5". I made adapter plates using the factory speakers as a template, and just put regular 1" tweeters in their place. They are el cheapo $20 tweeters, but they sound better than the factory speakers that were there. They have lasted me about 8 or 9 years now, so I can't really say too much bad about them.

Kicker makes aftermarket replacements for the 3.5.
Drove my neon until it was killed in a flood.
