How-To: Key fob programming
I thought this would be useful here. Maybe a sticky post?
Ok, this is from the 2000 Neon owners manual.
Additional transmitters can be programmed to the system using the following procedures:
1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn the switch to the run position.
2. Press and hold the Unlock button on the transmitter for between four and ten seconds.
3. Continue to hold the Unlock button and press the Panic button. A chime will sound to indicate that the transmitter programming mode has been entered.
4. Press a button on all transmitters to be programmed to the system, including any previously programmed transmitters. A chime will sound when each transmitter has been programmed.
5. Turn the ignition switch off to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Yes, it should work if you buy the correct one. i did this a few years ago when I bought a space transmitter. It worked fine for me.03sxt wrote:So this would work if I bought a transmitter off eBay, etc, correct?
Also, you do need one already programmed transmitter to program others.

You need 2 keys to program a third. You only need 1 transmitter to program others. Also, I thought this would be a good sticky since not everyone has a manual with thier Neons.BlackRoseRacing wrote:You need 2 to program a 3rd..you cant program a second transmitter without a DRB3. Read your manual, there is no real need for a sticky..

I stand corrected, you do only need one..........
For a customer to be able to program RKE transmitters themselves, at least one RKE transmitter must be programmed already. This procedure is to add additional transmitters. If all transmitters are lost, the DRB III® scan tool must be used to program the new transmitters.
1- Insert the key into the ignition switch, and turn the ignition switch to the RUN position without starting the vehicle (allow chimes to stop).
2 - Using the RKE transmitter programmed to the RKE module, press and continuously hold down the UNLOCK button for 4-10 seconds.
3 - Within the 4-10 second time range, continue to hold the UNLOCK button and press the PANIC button. Both buttons may then be released. Upon the PANIC button being depressed, the message for customer programming mode will be transmitted to the RKE module.
4 - A chime will be heard to verify that the customer programming mode has been entered (allow 3 seconds to hear chimes).
5 - Press and release any button on each transmitter that is to be programmed to the RKE module, including any transmitters which were previously programmed to the RKE module (with a maximum of four possible). After each transmitter is successfully programmed, a chime will be heard to verify that successful programming of the transmitter has occurred.
6 - After thirty seconds, or upon the ignition switch being turned OFF, the RKE module will exit programming mode.
Information is from DCX

Though this thread is a bit old meanwhile I like to tell, that the BUX-fobs usually have only this three buttons (open/close/trunk), too, but the "circuit board" has four contacts on it.
I tried this in a 4-button-housing and the panic-button worked there, too.
So I have been able to programm a third fob with my original three-button-Bux-fob (installed in the differenthousing).
Don´t know if any absent fob will be forgotten if you start the procedure and won´t have all fobs with you.
Other thing is, that the frequencies in europe/ germany and the states should be different.
