drag dr-33 question

Post by 05MoparSRT4 » Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:51 pm

Okay....so I've read on the SRT forums a sticky and I read these forums sticky but I am still confused.

I currently have a stock ride height 05. I want to lower it, it is a DD so i'm not lowering it to the point where I'm scraping because I need to be able to get over my girlfriends developments speed bumps. So here is where my question lays:

DR-33's specs are 5x100 17x17.5 +45 offset

*EDIT* forgot to add the question
Would the DR33 fit without rubbing when I lower my car?

I currently have Tenzo R Passion 5 wheels.....and this is where I have a problem. As I recently purchased the car with the wheels on it I'm not sure of the size I do know I have 215/45/17 tires on the car. So am I running 18x7.5? Any help would be apperciated

*EDIT2*
The wheels ARE sticking out past the fender a little bit by the way. Sorry I'm a noob to all this s*** go easy on the disses lol

Lowering the car will make no difference, they will either fit or they will rub against the strut perch/tension rod whether at stock height or lowered. Those distances don't change, they are... fixed if it you will. +45 is a fairly high offset on a 7.5" wide wheel though. I wouldn't be surprised if you had rubbing.

what would your recommendation be then?? Lower offset? or smaller width? Like fine a wheel that's 5x100 17x6 like our stock wheels?? I just want to lower my car without rubbing. A few inch drop

Again, you can lower it or not lower it and it will rub lowered if it rubs at stock height. The only thing you will really be changing is the height of the spring.

If it were me, I'd go with a lower offset wheel. A 7.5" wheel is a nice width for an SRT but you'll probably want to stick in the 25-35mm offset then. I have 7.5" wide wheels on my car with +35 offset and they were very close to the tension rods in the back but never rubbed. I bolted on spacers anyway so that is now a moot point.

So I guess from what you're saying is 17x7.5 is okay but with a lower offset?

hmm...still lost though....my car has 215/45/17 on it with the passion 5 wheels that's 17x7 and it's rubbing the caliper now so it seems like 17x7.5 would be worse. I need spacers for the front

A lot is going to be spoke design.

Yank off a wheel and check the current width and offset. Should be cast in the back.

Offset is +42 17x7 JJ (what was casted on the back of the wheel) the dr-33 has 7 spokes

Grab a buddy or a spare set of aluminum wheels and just take a peek at the spokes and hub. Some are very tight and some will leave 2" between the spoke and caliper. It's 99.9% spoke design, THEN offset. Width only matters for clearance at that point, not how close it'll be to the brakes.

Most of this won't matter for lowering if it's anything less than 2.5"

Are you just getting lowering springs or are you going coilovers? The reason I ask is because I had some 18x8 +48 on my car with stock suspension and everything was okay. I put some coilovers on my car and then my wheels were sitting on my coilover. It was seriously on it, the car wouldn't move. I needed lower offset. I now have 18x8 +35 and everything is fine again. Offset is everything.

SUSPENSION CLEARANCE:
your wheels are 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.
FENDERS CLEARANCE:
The same.
WHEEL WELLS CLEARANCE:
Will fill out the wheelwell by extra 3 mm. Almost no difference

this is assuming you're running 195-45's or a similar diameter tire (same diameter as the stock 185-65 r15's

I use http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp to calculate these things assuming that:

Snowflakes (5 spoke 2000-2002) ------- 16.02lb----- 15x6, 5x100, 40 offset

Based on all these I'd say that if your stock wheels clear, then these wheels will clear as long as you're running a similar diameter tire.

good luck! :rockon:

edit:
assuming srt-4 wheels and stock tire size the only major difference is:
stock= 133 mm (5.2'')
aftermarket= 153 mm (6'')
19 mm (0.7'') deeper.

not much of a big deal- I'd say go for it.

sorry I assumed you had a plain-jane neon like me :tardbang:
