for now you're going to have to settle for a Chrysler 200S awd.

The focus RS should be awesome but I am expecting the sticker to be out of my price range for a bit too long. The focus ST and fiesta ST are still way over priced.

This is not a for sale section.

If you want to post the link, do it in the other for sale/ebay links topic.

Ho hum. I would still buy one anyway if I were in the market for a new car and this model was still being built. If "Moparites" were upset with FCA naming it "Dart", would they have been more happy (and would the model been easier to market) if it had been named "Neon"? I still think of it as a 3gn Neon anyway.

I'm not upset about it being named "Dart" … I loved my 1963-66 Dodge Darts "back-in-the day". Because Darts were discontinued, they're now a used car bargain.
My original post is a car that I'm considering buying. My lasting criticism about the Dart being underpowered, and too heavy still holds true, but I like the looks.
Have you looked at the Chevrolet Spark or the Toyota Yaris ? They're both "fugly" but sell well.

The Neon was a great car, but they're long gone.

Spark will be gone soon but at least it was assembled in the US. Toyotas? Nope, never.

I still see plenty of Neons on the road. In fact, I have a nice one in my garage. :-)

Toyotas are assembled in Georgetown, KY … you do have a nice Neon, that's 14 years old like mine.

Given the options for an economical car... or because younger generation, or price point is the only thing those folks can get by with.

My neighbors have a Patriot that they rarely drive, a Yaris, and just bought another Yaris. Not sure why they would want two, but hey, whatever. I guess they must cheap enough, as only one of them works driving a delivery van. They are both in their late 50's.

Given the track record of the Caliber/Patriot/Compass platform, I can't blame them for not driving it much. It won't break that way.

My parents regret every day buying a Caliber. About every 15,000 miles, something breaks on it. It has made it to 170,000, but has cost far more to keep going than any other Mopar we collectively have owned.

:withstupid: Fortunately, I never bought a Caliber … when it came out with the big, heavy, ugly body and CVT, I told the Chrysler-Plymouth dealer that I did business
with since 1970, "if this is the best DaimlerChrysler can do to replace the Neon, my next small car will be a Toyota Corolla !" :(

The Germans at DCX thought that the Caliber was what Americans wanted- WRONG. Never a Neon replacement, a dud from the start. Fugly too.

During the time that I owned the 1998 Toyota Avalon, it was less expensive to maintain than the 2005 Dodge SRT-4, even though the Avalon had a lot
more miles on it. Comfortable, but reliable and bland. :P

About your take on the Caliber ... apparently great minds think alike, it belongs in the same category as the Pontiac Aztek

Know that question is directed towards the colonel but I will add my 2 cents. Only FCA products I would own have the SRT badge on them. >:) But I am not a fan of big vehicles. I REALLY REALLY miss small cars. Makes me sad the only performance vehicles FCA has are boats. Yes I know of the Fiat ABARTH, but I don't believe they are too reliable when I was looking into them. I test drove one and it felt as quick as my 99 Neon DOHC 5 speed, maybe slower haha.

Really unfortunate the "dart" was not successful. Video did a great job summing up why. Was always looking for updates on the SRT model..then that got scrapped then so did the GLH version. :( MFR's are in it to make money and the popular vehicles are SUV's/Crossovers and Trucks. Since now they get super good gas mileage. I still will probably NEVER own one in my life.

All I know is that, after I made a special trip to the auto show in Detroit for the Dart introduction, a member of the SRT team told me that an SRT version was definitely coming. Big mistake for FCA to not deliver on that promise.

As of right now it’s very few. I like the minivans, I like the rams, I like the charger/challengers, but that’s about it. I want a nicer daily for work but it will certainly not be a FCA product. They don’t make anything to suit my needs.

Christy and I have put about 12k miles on Jonny’s car since we bought it though.

Charger/Challenger.

But really not feasible (for me) as a DD, and way too expensive for a weekend toy. Until I win the lottery, neither will be in my stable.

IMHO, buying any of the Fiat platforms is no different than buying any other import brand that is made in the States. They all support American labor. Corporate is going to look out for corporate, no matter what country they are based in.

This is why the selection of smaller cars is crap, they are not the number one priority. It also makes it tough to choose a smaller car, that doesn't get much better mileage than a small SUV with more amenities. Other than the potential for better handling, there isn't much of an edge.

My wife's Forester is a much nicer vehicle than my Impreza, and gets 6 more MPG highway. The neon will out handle both, but will also eat suspension parts faster than both.

Since you mentioned Subaru, two work vehicles ago, I took delivery of a Subaru Forester from the Lafayette, IN plant. After having Japanese Subaru Imprezas in our fleet prior, I looked forward to having something American-assembled to drive. What a disappointment. The car drank oil and ate light bulbs. I had to keep a quart in the vehicle at all times since the car thought it was a diesel. Head lights and tail lights would go out with regularity, at least one or two a month. One tail light bulb burnt out so furiously that it melted the plastic housing and had to be replaced under the factory warranty. I was so glad when the company went to Chevrolet Equinox models and I was rid of that lemon. [/off-topic]

The oil consumption thing was a limited issue to one year,
The front turn signal issue was actually a wire harness not being routed correctly, and was pulled too tight. The tail light, probably a freak light bulb.

If I judged an entire company off of one car, I would have been done with Chrysler years ago. And probably every other make.

It wasn't like it came out of your pocket....

APOLOGIES TO od- I tried to quote from this post but messed it up completely. Please forgive me. Midnight_Rider
