The actual difference between 2000 cable clutch firewall, and 2001 up hydraulic clutch firewall.

The hydro firewall is a bit more recessed where the master cylinder mounts. I'm not sure the previously shown cutout will make it fit correctly.

Once I get the 2000 cleaned up better, it should be easier to tell. I will also get an interior shot of the 2000 firewall.

Re: D.J. ºº
I began to cut the firewall on the silver car tonight, but my dremel began to smoke, so I guess I'll have to get something a bit more substantial.
It has always gotten quite hot, but it has never began to smoke. You had to watch how you held it, or the air coming out the vent would burn your hand.
Oh well.
Bought a tow bar tonight to tow the chassis to my house. I just have to get the silver car out of the garage first, have a few more things to strip, in addition to cutting the section of firewall out. Plus get the knuckles on Dark jewel's shell.
Since Chris sold off the interior, etc, and chopped the PCM ends off the harness, I need as much as I can salvage from the '01. I'll have to do some grafting of the 2000/2001 harnesses...

Wow more projects. Very hefty ones at that. So you own both those cars now (silver and purple 2gn's) and plan on moving everything to the purple one? And I too rmember that purple car. Looks like it got massacred. If memory serves me right instead of selling the car he just parted the whole thing out to make more money?

Yes.
About everything was sold off. The shell with the doors was a week away from going to the scrapyard, so I made the trip halfway across the state and brought it home for $400. That in itself was an adventure, both getting it on the trailer, which was barely big enough, and driving back with it.
If only he had not sold off the pedals, I could at least use a cable MTX if I could find an HD one. But swapping the firewall panels might be an easier task, and I will have more common parts.
I have the PCN painted dash frame, but the airbag, and all the other painted pieces are long gone. So I am just going to use my '01 dash. It is kind of glossy anyways, so that might be an issue on sunny days.
If anyone wants the PCN dash frame, I would sell it, but It wouldn't be a cheap item to ship. This does not include the top dash pad, just the part that is attached to the dash frame.
My brother bought the engine, which unfortunately had coolant in the oil, so by the time he took it apart, there was some damage.
He ended up swapping the SRT internals into his Stratus block, which he machined into an SRT block. (All 2003 up 2.4's have the casting provisions to be an SRT spec block.)
That engine is currently sitting in this: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=67328
The car ('99 R/T) was not as nice as pictured, but still relatively rust free.

It is pretty tight in there where the brake booster sets. I pretty much had to cut it from the inside of the car, which still was not fun.

The sad thing is I bought the replacement panels, but the drunk ass body guy tossed them in their scrap pile. When I seen the work they did, I told them they will either produce the parts I supplied, or they will be refunding me the amount I paid for them, in addition to not getting paid what they were charging. The guy went out and found them. Freakin douchebags. I did get the satisfaction of seeing the shop go out of business about a year later.

Re: D.J. ºº
When I was out at my parents house the other day to take pics of the '00 firewall, I did notice that the driver's door is not original. It is a PS2 door.
Kind of a bummer, since the original door sticker is history. There is no sticker whatever on the replacement door, where it would be is painted PCN. So I have no real idea of the build date.
I only hope they swapped the door harness, if it was equipped differently.
I kind of wish they did the information stickers like Subaru does. It is on the body shell in the door opening, on BOTH sides. But I suppose an extra sticker would have broke DCX.

It made it home without any issues. Tracked pretty well, for just slapping the suspension under it. The camber on the rear left tire needs some adjusting, as the wheel leans in pretty badly. But I'll worry about that later.
Unfortunately I'll have to swap the front crossmember, as Chris cut the front ear off on the right side, where the lower torque strut mounts to. Probably to make clearance for the Stratus oil pump setup.
Kind of a shame, as the crossmember is in incredible shape for a 19 year old 2gn crossmember. It has no rust at all. I could always weld on an extension to recreate the mounting point.

Re: D.J. ºº
Yep, it followed just fine. You just need to make sure the steering column is free to turn. I was a bit worried how it would steer, being there is no engine or trans in the front for weight on the front tires. But after making a few turns in the field, it didn't have any traction issues for moving the front tires. So I figured pavement would do better than grass.
Tow bars are really a bargain, as long as you can bolt them on. I couldn't find any of the old school ones that used chain t wrap around something. Maybe they are not legal to sell anymore?
But I couldn't have rented a tow dolly, and made the trip to U Haul two times for under $99.00. I think I paid $80 to rent the tow dolly for the '99, and the time to pick it up, sign all their paperwork, then return it. So the $99 was a relative bargain. I could have gotten one from Harbor Freight for $79, IIRC, but it didn't look like the same quality as the Curt. I didn't see $20 worth of savings there. And next time I ever need it, it will cost $0.
The Subaru really didn't have any problem with getting it moving or stoping. It did far better than my Cherokee pulling my '99 home on a tow dolly. After the first stop sign with the Cherokee, I learned you had to slow down waaaaay ahead in advance. The neon literally pushed the Cherokee right up to the stop sign and a little past, with all 4 wheels locked. Granted, it had the added weight of the tow dolly to stop, but still....
But then about all the Cherokee was good at, was off road. Anything on road, it just didn't do as well as my other vehicles. While I liked it, I really can't say I had any regrets selling it.

Being scrap is worth about zero, they don't seem to be in a hurry to come and get it. I called Monday, the guy said he would try to pick it up sometime Monday. It is still sitting there.
I told the wife I was going to weld some runners on the bottom, paint it red, and put a Santa in it, and some presents in the back.
She didn't see the humor.

Yeah, they picked it Friday, the guy apologized, he admitted he forgot all about it.
They won't pay out for an empty shell, as there is not enough weight there. Scrap steel value is next to nothing right now. China isn't buying, driving the prices up like they were a few years ago.
I was just happy to have it gone, and not having to pay to have it picked up. I'm sure if there was no one close, they would have likely charged for the flatbed. It beats having to cut it up, load it onto the trailer and take it somewhere for $5.00
I'm hoping to get the car cleaned up, and in the garage on Friday, since it is supposed to be "nice" out, and I have the day off. I'll leave Black Friday to the die hards.

I got it washed inside and out today, the inside was pretty dirty from sitting for the last 5 or 6 years, not being sealed up, as a lot of the holes in the body are open, being the interior was completely stripped except for the dash frame/HVAC module.
Squirrels made a nest up in the dash, and I didn't notice that Chris had pulled the cowl screen out, so I fear what may be inside the HVAC module. Thankfully I have the entire set up from my '01.

Kind of debating on keeping the painted part, in addition to the wiring. Slapped the '01's HVAC bezel on it.

I guess it will come down to how it looks as an accent to the non painted pieces. I don't know that I would go to the trouble to paint everything like Chris had it, and I imagine the glare from a glossy dash pad would be pretty horrendous.
I have a Mopar rubber insert for the center new in a bag somewhere.

I have to take the dash out, it's the only part of the interior that was left.
I'll have to graft the wire harnesses together, as the engine bay ends were chopped off.

One minor difference that isn't mentioned:

The bracket that bolts to the firewall that supports the engine bay to under dash wire harness connector is also different. In the 2001 up (3 holes) the bracket is sandwiched between the clutch MC mount. in 2000, it just bolts to the firewall.

Yeah, everything will be disassembled and sterilized in the dash. I'm not even sure I want to take that HVAC module apart.
The one from the '01 is definitely replacing it.

Re: D.J. ºº
This picture is a bit misleading. It is not a 2001 up panel grafted into a 2000. It is the cut out in the car it came from. I always wondered, since the color matched so well.
Notice how straight the vertical bend is on the 2000.
IMG_20200104_143245059[1] by occasional demons, on Flickr
And how it contours to the wire harness hole in the 2001 up.
And the difference near the frame rail.

It would have been nice if they took a picture of how it actually fit into the 2000, if they ever actually got that far...
It makes me a little more nervous about hacking the firewall. But given the task and expense of finding a HD cable MTX, and a set of 2000 pedals, I don't have many other options.
To my knowledge no one has ever posted pictures of it actually being finished successfully. The plus is, the brake booster would hide any unsightly grafting issues.
But if the depth isn't spot on, it could make adjusting the clutch pedal impossible. There isn't a lot of play in the MC push rod. I do have a Daryl Cox push rod I got off eBay a long time ago, just incase the one in my '01 ever failed.
I couldn't remember if I got the power folding mirrors that Chris had from the car. I know I pm'ed him about them, as the build sheet shows that they were heated mirrors. But he said it didn't have that option. Which it doesn't. After some digging, I found them.

Re: D.J. ºº
So I did some more comparing what needs to be cut.
I traced the hydro section onto the cable firewall, and mounted the hydro pedals to the firewall.
IMG_20200109_190641740 by occasional demons, on Flickr
The pedals clear everything without any interference.
I traced where the left side of the pedals are in relation to the holes.
IMG_20200109_191022659 by occasional demons, on Flickr
And did the same with the cutout.
IMG_20200109_191040767 by occasional demons, on Flickr
This is what I will probably use, possibly going with the lower part of the orange line.
IMG_20200109_191410388 by occasional demons, on Flickr
I am working on a template to make a bracket that will bolt to the pedal frame, and the cutout part, to position it exactly how it needs to be in the cutout hole.
Details to follow later...
I have found a few 2000 MTX's on eBay, but they are pricey, and not the later HD units. I may as well use a 1gn MTX at that point. I got decent highway mileage with my 3.55/.81 MTX, and it still had decent power in 5th. I don't know it would have the same pull with a 2.0 and the .74 OD. I don't know for sure if I want to 2.4 swap it, but if I did, I would probably lean towards a .74 OD. It seems to suit the lower end torque of the 2.4. But if more aggressive cams were used, the .81 might better use the cam's power curve.

No sign of any pedal assemblies. The 2000 clutch pedal pn 4668277 is long disco'ed, and I'm not sure it would even work in a hydro pedal frame.
The interesting thing is the RHD 2000's got a hydro clutch, so I really don't know why they didn't just make the domestic's hydro also. Unless they only had a limited supply of hydro T350's and used them for export.

Re: D.J. ºº
To use the 2001 to 2005 hydraulic clutch in the 2000 body.
2000 MY pedals were unique to 2000, making finding the pedal set up now like finding a needle in a haystack. I messaged a few of the eBay sellers that were selling the 2000 MTX's if they had the pedal assy's, and possibly the clutch cable, but got no responses. They probably crushed them with the cars. The cables are still available, but not the pedal or frame it mounts in.
Since the cable hook up is on top of the pivot, it won't work to modify the hydro pedals. The hydro pedal pushes the master cylinder rod, and the cable set up pulls the cable. Two totally opposite designs.
You can see here, where the drawn in hole outline lines up with where the MC pushrod would go, and the hole above it where the cable came through to attach to the top of the 2000 pedal. Notice how far to the left that hole is from the top of the 2001 up pedal.
Chris sold off the pedals, etc, so I don't have much of an option, unless I either do a custom clutch pedal/master cylinder which mounts under the dash, or go with an ATX.
The car was originally an ATX car. So I will have to blend my 2001 engine bay harness into the 2000 dash harness at the connector to make the minor differences all function, without totally swapping the entire body harness. The 2000 has a lot more features than my '01, so it will be easier to keep the 2000 body harness. At least Chris didn't have the motivation to yank the body harness out.
He even left the fog light MFS on the bare steering column.
But he did pull the RKE module out. Getting a module and having a FOB programmed to it is a bit pricey, so that will be a ways down the road if I want RKE. But at least the wiring and connector is there. It isn't in my '01 dash harness.
There are plenty of RKE modules for sale on Ebay, but no FOBs with them. Dorman sells a FOB and a programmer but it is $50 to $70 depending on the seller, but there is that option for people that lose their FOB's without having to have the dealer program one for them. It is cheaper in that aspect, but not so much when you are buying both the receiver and the FOB kit.

Now I can cut the part off I need, and bolt the pedals to the 2000 firewall, trace out as much as I can, remove the cutout, finish tracing, cut out the 2000 section, and re attach the 2001 cutout, and trim the hole until it fits perfectly.
I am debating on welding or riveting it in place. Riveting won't burn paint off, and it being a double wall construction, might work out better. But I will have to fab a plate of sorts to rivet to on the inside of the car, so it is not as visible.

I seen something on TV the other night about how difficult it is to put car fires out with the newer vehicles, due to the manufacturers using more magnesium in the construction. Once it catches fire, it is very difficult to extinguish.
And look what is directly above your feet...

The steering column mounts to it...
I'm still on the fence about using the painted dash. I'm sure it has a lot of work invested in it, but it was also done in haste. Since it was not removed from the car and disassembled to paint it, there is a lot of work that needs done to make it a lot better. all the lower parts are pretty sketchy. Grated you don't see them all that well from above, but there is a lot of buffing compound splattered everywhere, which does not come off easily. The lower parts have a lot of sanding marks and orange peel.
If it was done at a body shop, they also skimped on doing the door properly. all the trim pieces were masked off and sprayed. The paint is peeling off near the mirror due to lack of paint prep. The door was stood on it's latch end when it was sprayed, because the entire edge is one big paint run.
So that will probably be re sprayed when the day comes I have the fascias hood and trunk color matched.
