Avoid Grubhub
I ordered Taco Bell through Grubhub before 2 p.m. this afternoon with a scheduled delivery time of 7:15 p.m. According to their tracking system, the order had yet to be prepared by 7:30. Tracking eventually showed delivery to my house around 8:30 but I received nothing. I was sitting by my front porch window, blinds open, the front porch light on and less than three feet from my front door so there is no way that I could have missed their driver. I called their Customer Service line and was told that, while the driver initially had been lost (no phone call from the driver to me to verify directions), the delivery was made. I received a 50% off promo code email for my next order (!) but they will not refund the $21.23 that has been charged to my VISA. Apparently, they think that I am stupid enough to give them more money after stealing from me this time.
I will be disputing the charge with my VISA issuing bank so I won't have to pay but it irks me that this is basically a "they say, I say" situation. Oh, after I called Customer Service, the tracking information for my order was deleted from their website, making it look as if I never ordered from them. Good thing that I had already printed the two emails that they sent prior to the "delivery".

I don't use those services In my own small town let alone in a big city like where you live. I know it's useful for some people to have these services but I find it as a waste of money unless it's a pizza delivery.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
Meh, I don't even have my pizza delivered. At least if it's made wrong, I don't have to wait another 45 minutes to get it. Standard delivery around here is 40 to 45 minutes, and it only takes 10 minutes to make it, so that means it's been sitting for over a half hour before I get it.
It only takes me about 7 minutes to get to any of the places around me, so I get there as it is being boxed up, and can be at home eating it a lot quicker than if it is delivered, and I don't have to tip.
For the most part, salads, pizza or chinese are about the only things we go pick up, anything else it just better to go to the restaurant. I don't mind tipping a server that does more than just get in there car and bring it to your door, and then the hassle if it's wrong. I've had too many issues in the past with delivery, so I don't even bother anymore. They bank on you being too hungry to care at that point.
When you are there face to face, they tend to do better. I have gotten the incorrect pizza, and the remade correct one by going to pick it up, all for free just for having to wait the 10 minutes for them to re do the order. And that time they made it double crust for some reason, the check out person noticed it, I didn't even have to raise the issue.
The sad thing is, I like making my own pizza, but by the time you buy the ingredients, and use your oven, it cost more than double to make your own vs what the pizza chains/restaurants can make them.
If you are making for more than one or two people, it is more cost effective, but being just the two of us, or sometimes only one, it is tough to beat just going out for something other than a sandwich or can of soup.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
I have used Pizza Hut delivery on my one day off a week as I don't like to leave the house and drive anywhere. Using Grubhub was a way of getting a little diversity in ordering- I knew that it would cost more than driving to the individual restaurant. I just wanted to give everyone a head's up about what might happen if an order goes wrong. Needless to say, if I want home delivery in the future, I will stick to Pizza Hut. Never an issue; in fact, twice I have received free pizzas for orders either being later than promised or earlier than promised. Both times, I didn't even notice the time issues, nor had I called to complain. Their driver just gave me coupons with apologies printed on them and order codes. Way to go Pizza Hut!

Never even heard of Grub Hub. I don't think I have ever ordered delivery in my life. Yup, not even pizza. I usually just make my own food if I stay at home.

Just noticed that they added another charge for 36 cents for yesterday! I have no idea what that is for but I'll be disputing both charges with my issuing bank once they are out of pending status.

Maybe look into virtual credit card numbers with your bank, to see if they offer that feature. One time use, and it is no longer valid. It is still linked to your account, so they get paid, but they can't go back and make more charges with that number.
It is a small hassle setting up a number each time, but convenience is what unscrupulous individuals prey on.

I guess it depends on where you live and what you order. My step son and wife have used grub hub at our house with no problem. Mostly because Christy was really sick and didn’t feel well enough to drive. I also have a friend who delivers for door dash in Maryland, he said he loves doing it.
Most of the time if we’re ordering food I’ll go pick it up since I don’t want to pay an additional $5-10 for a delivery fee and tip and we live far away from everywhere in town.

Man they are making a killing when people aren’t fucking them on tips because they don’t have to have a face to face interaction.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
A lot of places here offer free Grubhub delivery, but I believe it is a $20 minimum order. I'm sure they are still relying on tips to make up some of it.
I don't know if these places pay them a flat amount, or how it works. Because I doubt they are driving food around solely out of the goodness of their hearts. And hoping they get a tip for the effort.
The local Grocery store charges $8 to have your groceries delivered.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
I’m not quite sure how grubhub is being paid for a free delivery, but the drivers now get a few cents per mile, plus a few cents per minute for drive time. Most rely on tips.
Now that people are opting for contactless delivery a lot of people aren’t tipping, since they don’t need to see the driver face to face. Which is gross in my book.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
I even tip when I pick up at some places. I have found that they usually give you a lot more food than you normally get, and one place the girl even gave me a 10% discount in addition to piling it in the carry out box. Unfortunately they are now shut down, and will probably never reopen.
But you could tell those waitresses genuinely appreciated it. They had to ring out the orders, as there was no dedicated cashier. It was a place where mostly senior citizens frequented, so I'm sure the tips were pretty meager most of the time.

Re: Avoid Grubhub
There’s only 2 places we really order out from, a pizza place and a Chinese food place. But since the Chinese food place is next to a grocery store that sells beer, I usually go and pick it up.
Lately the Chinese food place is only taking orders over the phone and having you pay with a card, and then setting up a pickup table right by the door when you walk in so you’re not exposed to anyone.

Since Rally's (Checkers in some areas of the country) is temporarily offering free delivery, DoorDash delivered twice over the weekend. Good service on Friday but on Saturday I ended up paying for a large size shake and got a regular size one instead. One thing I don't like about DoorDash is that they store your CC or DC information (unlike Pizza Hut).
