2005 Dodge SRT-4

Post: #1   PostPosted: Thu May 18, 2017 2:28 pm    Post subject: Hagan bought another neon Reply with quote

Just an update for the guys who are still on the forums.

I bought a 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 with 71k miles on the odometer for $1,000 about a month ago.

I was told by the seller (who's a mechanic..) that the car wasn't driven in over 3 years (you can see that from the paint, dry rotted window strips, etc). The car was parked all this time because he told me a synchro went out in 3rd and he couldn't get the car to turn over.

I towed the car home, the trip was 4 hours each way. When I got home, I popped the hood and noticed the positive battery cable was very corroded. So I cleaned it up, checked the oil in the motor, and turned it over. Car started right up as the guy put a brand new battery in the car for me.

Now the car wasn't wanting to go into gear. Any gear. So I crawled under the dash and loosened the clutch pedal adjuster, pulled it as far as I could to me, and tightened it back up. Started the car back up and the car was going right into all the gears without any issues.

3rd gear was having some issues going into gear every now and then. But after pulling the battery and tray out, I noticed the car was missing a booger bushing.. So that's an easy fix.

The car's throw out bearing is making some noise so I'm going to pull the transmission this weekend and put a new TOB in and I also have the upgraded fork as well.

All in all, I feel very lucky lol.

Yeah I'm really thankful this car doesn't need too much.

I went in being told it was a lot worse than it was, by the owner.

That "mechanic" sounds like a real jackass.

That mechanic gave me a great deal, so I can't complain lol.

He was the original owner too. So that's good to know as well. The window sticker was in the glove box. Not quite sure where I put it.. Might still be in the glove box lol

I still say one of the best buys and finds anyone can get when it comes to a srt4.

What are the long term goals with it tho. Like are you going to try and sell it for profit after a while or keep it long term. I know your currently adding mods to it so was just wondering.

I'm definitely going to keep it long term.

I'm just getting this running good for now. I'll go big turbo later down the road after other financial obligations are satisfied with the wife (new house, baby, other crap lol)
