To my surprise, Hagerty didn't require having my car appraised.

My 1952 Chevy street rod is insured by Hagerty, but wasn't damaged by the hailstorm (because it was in the garage). Insurance paid for ~$12k
body damage on my wife's 2009 Avenger, and replaced the roof on the house. The 2005 Dodge Neon SXT, 2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4, and 1998
Toyota Avalon only had liability coverage, but would have been totaled, even though they were perfectly roadworthy. Car dealers collected millions
from insurance, and shipped the new cars out of state to be sold.

Psh, now insurance would just total it. Then you would have to buy it back if they give you the option, and you would have an R Title neon that is only worth 50% of it's value.

Or just tell the insurance to piss off, and drive it with the damage, and have a clean title.

There is also custom car insurance, you need to get it appraised, and they will insure it for that value. Not sure how they handle claims that are close to/over the amount, but it might be a better option than using common car insurance.

So you end up with almost book value of your car in cash plus you keep the car. And most cars that are "cosmetically totaled" don't end up with a salvage/R title. Not in Maryland at least. It seems like s win to me. My wife had two deer accidents two years apart. My insurance company totaled my 93 voyager I paid $980 for, and gave me $1700 after buy back. My suburban I paid $1700 for 2 years later they paid me $2700.

Cosmetic damage still gets you an R title in Ohio.

My daughter had a woman pull into the side of her '99 300M. dented the front fender and the two doors. Everthing worked fine, it was just the sheet metal damage. Progressive totaled it.

She bought it back for $400, and drove it to the state salvage inspection station, and they passed it. So she then had to get an R title to register it.

In Ohio, when you accept payment for total damage, you must surrender your title to the insurance. If you buy it back, they only issue a Salvage title. If you want to register it again, you have to have all receipts of parts you used for repairs, any VIN numbers of cars you used major parts from, and have it inspected by the State Patrol.

You get an application, I think it is a small fee, and they set up an appointment. You have that piece of paper, and can drive your car there if it is driveable. No plates needed.

It was a bit involved with my neon, since I got some stuff from Ebay. They don't recognize Ebay receipts. But I had all the VIN numbers so they let it slide. I was the only person out of about 10 that day that they passed inspection.

It actually doesn't have to be safe, they only care about potential stolen parts being used to fix it. People bring cars in on trailers to get them inspected.

Since my daughter didn't buy anything to make it driveable again, it was an easy pass.

Lots of Carlisle prep talk on Facebook. I've booked my hotel room (for free) at the Marriott. Bought some parts for the wagon so I can start turning wrenches on it soon.

They'd probably sell easy on Facebook on one of the many for sale pages.

If the same people on FB are the ones on this site, I had the parts listed for quite awhile and didn't receive any offers. I doubt that I would have any better success if I succumbed to joining FB.

Similar response when I was paying money to eBay to list them- this is why I gave up.

The main reason to join Facebook is greater activity, not selling or purchasing stuff Smile

There's a lot of people that are on the Facebook page that haven't been on the forum ever. I get your frustration though.

I imagine that I'll end up bringing the parts to a future Carlisle- perhaps someone there might want them.

I also have a new 2gn cruise control kit.

My entire project log on two sites have been rendered picture-free, thanks to Photobucket's asshattery. They actually want $400 from me to host on third part sites. They can go fuck themselves.

Looks like I'll be moving stuff over to Flickr or other a bit at a time, then close out the fotophucket account.

From what I can tell, folks that use Flickr still have working pics.

PB was getting ridiculous with all the ads popping up anyways.

Getting tags for the wagon today, alignment and tires mounted on pizza wheels tomorrow.

Got a set of 15x7 Rota slips with 225/50/15 tires from PhillyLS1 I'll be mounting on the SRT.

Carlisle prep almost done. Van won't be there but oh well.

I contemplated getting Slips for mine, but I've heard some horror stories regarding Rotas breaking under hard use. I plan to take the car to do some HPDEs at some point and I don't know if I'd feel comfortable using such cheap wheels on the track.

On the other hand, the last time I went, my ACR had XXRs on it and those are pretty cheap. The only damage was that the center caps melted. I'm probably overthinking it, but I'm still leaning towards the RPF1. The weights are really comparable, but the Slips cost less than half as much.

The centercaps melted??? LOL I love my RPF1's. Do they offer Rota Slips in 17'' or 16'' with a good offset and 5x100?

Testing out IMGUR since photobucket is photoFAIL. So upet over that. Had so many pictures that I didn't delete. And I bet there are a ton of how-tos on here and other neon forums that lost their pictures. Sad Sad

and it doesn't work lol

nvm got it

Got the wagon all ready for Carlisle. I learned that mid 80's pizza wheels won't clear SRT4 brakes without 12 or 13mm worth of spacers. Had to drive home on my old wheels after getting new tires mounted anyway.

Just need to get some bigger spacers for the rear and it'll look tits.
