Guess who's having leaky headlight issues again...

Image

It's just the passenger light so far. I'm going to pull both of them off and cake the seams with silicone, then swap the gaskets over to the Depo gaskets I have left over. The Depo gaskets are a thousand times nicer than the ones that came on these lights.

I also ordered all of the supplies to paint my wheels, so I'm excited for that outcome. I was on the fence about it for a while, but I decided what the hell. They're only wheels. It's not like they were crazy expensive or anything and I'm a pretty experienced painter. I'm tired of seeing other black SRTs with silver RPF1s; I need my car to be a little more unique. I think the grey wheels with help with that and make the car more my style.

Ahhh poor headlights. Yeah the ones that come with it are very thin and easily pliable. I used the Mopar OEM ones on mine. Do you ever do automatic car washes with your Neon? I am sure that wouldn't help either. Excited to see how the wheels turn out. I love gray too.

I only wash the car by hand, so no high pressure sprays.

I was going to paint the wheels this past weekend, but it didn't work out. I should be able to make it happen this week at some point. I saw yet another black SRT with silver RPF1s in one of the SRT groups on Facebook today. I really need to change it up.

Silver looks great in my opinion on black. Its nice to have a lighter color on a dark colored car in my opinion. But is that black SRT close to you? It would bother me if it was close by and I saw it on a regular basis. Local had a Acura TL-S just like mine in my town. Same color. He modified it quite a bit. Last month he totaled it. Now I am the only one with a Kinetic Blue Pearl TL-S in the area! Hahaha.

Well, here it is:

Image

If I'm being honest, I liked the grey more on the silver car. I still think it looks pretty cool, just not as cool as I had hoped. But it's whatever. No turning back now. If I ever change the color again, I'm saving money for powder coating. Painting is a pain in the ass and despite all the prep work, there's still some fish eyes in this paint on two of the rims. You can't see it from more than five feet away, so I left it. Still kind of sucks, though.

Wheels seem to be the worst for fisheye, especially used ones.

Yeah, it isn't terrible, but somehow the color sort of clashes. Of course no two monitor screens are going to show the same exact colors.

At least it isn't powder coat, and you are not 100% happy with it.

If nothing else, spray paint is a cheaper $-wise way to see if a color or shade works for you.

Although next time, I would paint a cardboard circle.

I was hoping my Photoshop would be enough to give me a feel for it. Unfortunately, the grey is kind of hard to match on the computer screen and it looked different than the actual result. It's not too bad, it's just not what I was hoping for. I need to take some better pictures and see if it grows on me some more.

Years ago I had a red car, and decided to paint the wheels, I had some gold paint, and it looked pretty decent against the body. But after I painted the wheels and put them on the car, it looked hideous.

Sometimes it's one of those things where you just have to do it to really know if you are going to like it.

I was planning to paint the shift knob and the HVAC surround grey to match the wheels. Now I'm kind of second guessing those plans. Painting those is a lot less work than the wheels, though. I can always undo that in a couple of hours if I don't like it.

Yeah, it does look a bit like Nardo Gray. It's just a little darker, I think. It's a cool color. Just a little weird on the black car, I think.

I KNOW...more work to do...but...
How about adding an accent color around the rim bead area to contrast? Gold or Silver maybe????
With a Black car, black rims and tires is just a bit too much for my tastes. With the right accent color and amount of area used, I think the Gray main color of the rims would blend well to the car. BUT that's just this "old timers" point of view......

It looks better on my monitor at here home.

At work, it looks more like a primer gray.

It's not like they spend much on PC equipment (for the factory floor). I have the same monitor, keyboard, mouse and tower that I have had since ~2010.

They got Windows 7 to run on it somehow, but it literally takes 10 minutes to boot up and be able to be on the internet/check internal email.

But hey, I get paid by the hour!

I know they could have bought me a nice high end system for what they have paid me over the years to sit and wait.

I know half this shit that gets shipped up north, is going to go straight into the garbage bin.

I've been slowly adding grey to other parts of the vehicle, to try to incorporate the wheel color a little more.

The grey changes a lot, depending on the light. It can look gunmetal dark at times, and primer grey light at other times. I'm still contemplating painting the silver dash bits inside the car. I'd really prefer to not paint my OEM pieces, though. If anyone has an extra HVAC surround laying around, I'd be interested in buying it off of you.

Yeah it looks like when the sun is directly on it the color is very light. I dig the color, goes well with the gloomy non-sunny washington weather! :P Plate surround looks great and the injector cover came out perfect as well.
I been thinking about going colormatching the hvac surround myself. Looks like a hassle though with masking. I would probably fail. There are a ton of SRT-4s being parted out on FB I am sure someone would sell you one cheap. Or get one at the junkyard from a 2gn Neon. Yeah the silver bugs me a tad inside the car. For sure do it on extra pieces.

Masking the HVAC surround isn't terrible, it just takes some patience, and some practice with a small razor to get a clean edge around the decal. Ideally, if replacement decals were available...

There is an eBay seller hawking modified surrounds, for a hefty price tag, but they have pulled the HVAC labels off, and are selling them in bare primer.

Now it might be worth the selling price, IF they had a new HVAC label available to apply, when you are done painting, but I guess that's your problem trying to find one, or tranfer one without destroying it. Getting them off without it curling, and laying flat again is nearly impossible.

That makes those nicely modded surrounds about worthless, if you want them to look somewhat nice after being painted. Otherwise it is just an unfinished piece in the middle of your dash.

I've seen the ones on eBay. There's a stock one going for $35 that I've been eyeing. Still seems expensive. I need to find a local yard that has some Neons in it and just pull one for cheap. It doesn't have to be an SRT version for paint. I painted one years back and the masking isn't bad.

Well, in kind of sad news, the car is for sale. I think I'm just getting bored with Neons for the time being. I have been craving a RWD project for a while and now is as good a time as any to switch it up. Hopefully I can get what I want from the car to put toward something (relatively) good. Wish me luck.

No problems at all. I'm just looking for something new. I've already had one low-baller. I didn't even bother responding to him. I may end up keeping it if I can't find a good buyer. I won't sell it to a kid for his first car and I won't accept any low offers. I'm asking $5,000, but I'd take $4,500. I paid about $3,500 for it two years ago, but I dumped about four grand into it and haven't added many miles. I'd like to recoup at least some of that.

Well, she's gone. Went to a really nice younger guy who's had seven SRT's in the past. He even pulled up in another black SRT to buy mine. He bought it for basically full price, so it's whatever. I already miss it, though.

Time for another project.

182,840 miles. Quite a bit, but you wouldn't know by looking at it. It was a really good car, once I sorted out all the leaks and issues it had when I bought it.
