thanks for taking the time to read this. I know this is not on a neon but audio is audio. bro-in-law has a nissan titan and we replaced the factory radio with a newer model rockford factory radio eveything hooked up the same the only diffrence is the new radio is 1/4 ohms and requires a rockford amp made for that model truck . So we bought a after market amp and ran the wires. we had to use the highs in. after everything was done the was a hum in the speakers and it gets louder when we hit the gas. this has puzzled us for the longest time. we tried grounding the amp case and nothing we tried grounding the highs on the amp because they have a ground wire and the noise got louder, we tried grounding the radio still there, we tired moving wires to make sure power wire doesnt cross the speaker wires and still there. ok so we was looking in to what could be the problem tonight and the truck was running and when we pull the ground off the amp and tried to cut the truck off it didnt stop running. the radio stoped but the truck was still running and we even took the key out. and know we can figure it out either. Need help bad!!!! I have installed many many amps to include my own and never ran into a humming sound nor a problem were the car/truck had stayed running after it was shut off because of a diconnected ground on a amp. i know a have all the right speaker wire for i use a 9v to check them to make sure i had the right ones. i am lost and now screwed up since the truck stayed running . HELP HELP PLZ _________________ Brad

Ive had a humming before i couldnt figure out. I ended up having to wrap a strand of bare wire across the rcas on the back and ground them to the radio _________________

how exactly did you keep the truck running without the key in it? that sounds like another problem that is not audio related.
the whine is caused by a bad ground somewhere in the hu or the amp. i guess it could be caused by the antenna but that is easy to check - unplug it and see what happens.
next step would be to start disconnecting one line at a time until the whine goes away. that should pinpoint what is causing it. |

the truck only stayed running after i took the gronund off the amp. when i put the ground back the truck stopped running? we have added a second ground and it is still there we even grounded the radio. All lines are factory but the ones i had to splice into for the speaker wires. everything else hooked up the same as the old radio just one radio needed a amp and the old one didnt. power wire runs away from the speaker wires. ground is bigger then the power wire. if it is the antenna how would i solve the problem? _________________ Brad

| you have some serious electrical issues to find and resolve, ignition too it sounds. if the key is turned off and removed from the vehicle, any vehicle, it should not stay running no matter what is connected. your problems are greater than just audio. i would not connect anything electrical to the car until it is fixed. |

Ok so you added an amp to the factory rockford unit..I see do you happen to have an aftermarket radio around....If you can try pluggging that in and see if the noise goes away...
you say you already checked all the grounds....the radio has a crappy ground from the factory..Make sure you ground it yourself...
Also you may want to try coverter boxes as the high level inputs may be picking up way too much noise....hell if the radio was abused it may have slightly damaged outputs....If you can try running an aftermarket radio and see what happens
worse case if you have to run a set of rcas to a radio in another car and run them to the amp. run your friends car and see what it gets for noise.. _________________

any kind of wire carrying a constant supply of power (direct current) will create a small magnetic field around it. If any signal wires cross over the power wires it can create a humming commonly known as alt whine. does the pitch of the whine change with the rpm of the car, or is it a constant frequency? _________________ 02 neon
