wiring up projectors for low/high beams

Post by kc2005ptgt » Thu Mar 27, 2008 12:52 am

Ok, so I got new projects, see pic in sig, and I wired them all up correctly, but like stock. SO what's the problem? Well, I have HID's in the low beams and I do not like the idea of turning off the HID's to use the highs, and am wondering if there is a safe way to wire up the high beams to still work like stock, but keep the low beams from ever turning off when I click the highs on..? Anyone?

I have two relays, one for each side on the HID's rght now, power going to them directly off the battery, wired up correctly... do I need to use another set of relays to do this? A resistor, anything? Thanks all! I really want to do this correct.

I used this digram, except I only wired up the lows to the relays, and each has there own, for two reasons:

1) I was running out of wire
B) I could not figure out what is the reason for the relays on high beams in stock form
Next) I couldn't figure out what the heck the thing was in the middle connect to the high/low beams positive wire...?

The above thread is me running clancaster through the setup for his. Technically you will want two diodes in there, for protection. I'm not sure why there is more than one relay used in the above diagram.

EDIT: Ok well looking at it for a second, the high beam relay in that diagram doesn't really pertain to our application. Also the black tube thing is just a distorted image of a diode. Essentially what the diode is doing is allowing both the low beam and high beam signals to provide voltage to the coil of the relay.

Here is the wiring diagram I created.

Soooooo.. diodes... where do you get them at? Radio Shack, and what kind, or is there only one kind? Thanks for the response!

No problem man. Yup radio shack is your best bet, locally. Just a standard 14N001 one should work. Usually the people there are pretty helpful. The only spec on it you wanna worry about is the reverse breakdown voltage. You should have that to be greater than 12VDC.

Edit. Just looked em up. looks like the 14N001 will work for you, its rated til 50V. PDF

Nite.

ok, well I got the diodes, but before I put them in, I have uno question... the type you gave me above Radio Shack did have have or know about, but they did however have one called: 1N4001... same thing? 50V as well, but only 1A...? Is this ok? They were cheap, like $0.99 cheap ($1.06 plus tax) so I got them.

Which projectors did you get? I got the MPx ones and the high beams are separate from the projectors.
