1/4 mile time for 2nd gen R/T
I couldnt get my 01 RT to get any better than a 16.3 at the track today. Anyone else have any 1/4 mi. times they want to share with me with their RT? and if so, what do you have done to it? Mine isnt even stock, kinda bummed out...

i found this to help. lower your tire pressure to about 20psi cold or 22psi hot. DROP the clutch between 3500-4000 and youll pull like crazy off the line. my '01 RT ran a best of 16.27 with an intake and t/b
i am absolutely convinced that a smaller, and most likely lighter, rim plays a huge role in the time... ive seen many '01-'02 ACR's run 14.7-14.9 stock.... im sure the 200lb weight reduction plays a role in that difference in time but im convinced its the smaller and lighter 15's.... hopefully ill have my hands on a set soon so i can give it another shot
this might help
first run ever:
r/t: .438s run #5
60': 2.494s run #1
330': 7.062s run #1
1/8: 10.781s @ 65.6mph #1
1000': 14.000s
1/4: 16.702 @ 83.63mph run #1
second time at the track
best all around times(not from one single run):
60' - 2.364
330' - 6.958
1/8 - 10.513 @ 67.55mph
1000' - 13.634
1/4: 16.278 @ 84.92mph
keep in mind these were both done with 3k-3500rpm launches on the stock 16" silverstones on cheapo all-season 205/50-16s. the only performance mods at each event was intake and t/b
i generally shift as close to the rev-limiter as possible since the magnum makes it power past 7k AND it bumps you right into "secondary territory" at that high rpm shift
dont feel so bad, edmunds only pulled a best of 16.6 stock

between the 200-300 lbs in the trunk (stereo, and in the worst place in the car to put any weight!) with the high altitude of the firebird raceway boise track... i can hit an average of 17.3... 16.9 is my best. A guy with a car identicle to mine (same intake, strut bar, springs, and basic exhaust setup, but no system in the back and back seat pulled out) ran about 16.4 constantly all day. My 60ft was around 2.7+ at its best...
Weight plays a HUGE role in the neon... and more importantly, WHERE the weight is placed can make a big diff too!
Next time I race, ill pull the system, have the rear SRT-4 struts in and pop in my stock rear springs A good lift in the rear should help put some weight to the front, where it belongs.

go buy some cheap lightweight rims too.
I got some AR-24's (that weigh 13.2 each) for 200 bucks shipped.
They are 14's however, but that also will help.
I know there was another guy selling some for about 160 shipped...

mods:
iceman, LFS 60mm tb, prothane race inserts, srt catback, 15"snoflakes w/ goodyear eagle ls
approx 36~38psi in tires (it was hot, forgot to lower them), almost full tank of gas (was a hike to the track), no passenger seat, no rear seat cushion, no spare, just driver srt seat
worst was 16.532 @ 87.220 (had defrost on)
best was 15.847 @ 87.880
going to a different track this saturday and hopefully will get a ton more runs then what i got a UTL #5. plus im gonna do a couple with the traction control on, since i cant get 1st to hook up no matter what i try.

ive dropped the clutch right above 3500.... i spun the tires initially, caught, then spun again at the tq band at 4800, caught, and then chirped shifting to second
launching is like learning to drive stick... its a "feel" thing. we can give you a rough basis but we cant teach you it
oh yeah, i pulled a 2.3** 60' doing the above and that was with the stock 16's and 205/50-16 shitty all-seasons @ 22psi hot

Dont feel too bad, my best so far at the track is 16.0@ 91mph.
I've not been back since, but 60' 's were around 2.6. What was really depressing was all the Honda's out there running 14.7-15.6 @ <90 mph...
