adjustable cam gear

Fidanza or AEM?

I'm stuck trying to figure out what one to go with. what's the pros/cons of each or is it just a matter of preference?

ALSO

I'm putting a comp 400 in my atx knowing the 400 makes power past the 6250 shift point and I know I will have to adjust the timing to bring the power band down enough for me to better utilize the cam. how many degrees should I advance or retard the timing to get it more in my range? also, (this may be a noob question) but which way is which?

Unfortunately, every car is different, so you're goign to have to dyno your car to figure out what cam gear setting works for you. I've heard great about AEM cam gears.

I've had both and I like the AEM far better. It seems to be better constructed for 1 thing and it's far easier to adjust. The Fidanza uses a bolt and screw setup which is very difficult to get at for adjustments whereas the AEM utilizes an integrated flange bolt to make adjustments simple. It was never an issue when I ran the Fidanza but I know people who have had it "slip" on them and throw their timing way out.

Aem imo. And advance it to bring the power band down some. Try straight up and take it to the track and play with cam timing on a test n tune night to get the best mph which idealy makes the best power I think. Lol.

I retarded the cam timing and it brought the powerband down from peaking at 7250 down to 6600. Advancing the timing moves the powerband higher into the rpm's. (at least that's what I'm seeing with my car)

Kelevra, one thing to keep in mind is that with an NGC computer, an adjustable cam gear does little to none. i found this out from experience. until recently (going MS) mine has been on for looks only.

if you do go with an adjustable gear, make sure it's really tight after adjusting it. mine slipped on the dyno and gave me 3 failed dyno runs
