Thanks LSP. I think that things are going okay- my problem is that the car has never been out of my sight for this long before and I was already paranoid enough about everything concerning the car anyway long before this accident.

I think that we have a pretty good understanding of each other in that area, right? LOL
Thanks but I think that I might turn a corner financially on my job sometime this summer (possible raise discussion with my boss on the phone a few minutes ago) so maybe I can finally start the mods- new parts, what a concept!Passt wrote:I'll see if I can source a used one for you.Midnight_Rider wrote:^^Upgrading the exhaust was on my mental list of mods even before I bought the car but, unforunately, my finances have prevented me from doing anything other than the STS. Maybe someday...
I haven't heard anything from the body shop today but the online status has gone back to "Body" so I am assuming that the new hood arrived today. That leaves painting and cure time before reassembly and this is an area that I don't want them to rush on.Neon4Life wrote:... is there any word on when you are going to get it back ?

ok i mis read it to a degree lol well i dont see damage done to the fog cover and bumper besides pain but my eyes could be fooling me if they are damaged how bad are they? as far as the head light at our dealer there 185 for both i had to get a quote for some parts lol 1500 for an srt hood unpainted 8l... eh i would still look around and see other shops work and prices it doesnt hurt to try... but thanks for the correction lsp i needed it lol sorry gramps not trying to scare ya at all just saying make sure your not getting screwed on anything?LilSparkPlug wrote:He said 3700 worth of damage, not frame damage. Considering the bumper is $748 and the hood retails at $1,000, the fog bezels are $80+ an OEM headlight is $200, I think 3700 w/labor is reasonable considering parts alone are over 2,000. Add in the rust proofing, frame pulling/straightening, paint materials, labor, prep, cover etc and you're easily at the figure they gave him.
Nothing they've done seems fishy at all, they're handling it rather well from what I can see.

When I got into an accident in 08, headlights were 300 EACH, so perhaps your dealership was giving you a discount. And, since his car is torn apart and insurance is covering it, there's no reason and no way to shop around... can't get another quote without the shop seeing the car.

I appreciate your concern, it's all good!mattern248 wrote:sorry gramps not trying to scare ya at all just saying make sure your not getting screwed on anything?
Exactly. The estimate calls for $252 for the headlight (not including labor). I had wanted to shop around but the car was deemed unsafe to drive at the first shop I went to so I didn't have much of a choice.TheRandom1 wrote:When I got into an accident in 08, headlights were 300 EACH, so perhaps your dealership was giving you a discount. Shop has now given a projected date of next Wednesday for completion.

Email today that car will be ready tomorrow (Tuesday). As much as I want my baby back, I kind of wish that I could keep the rental until all of this snow is gone.
I can't go into details here but dealings with the insurance company are far from over.

Sorry to hear about this gramps....
Sounds like things are going to be taken care of properly and that is a good thing, but there are always small little set backs with shops with deliveries or just getting bad parts at times, etc etc. At least they are on top of it.
As for "stainless steal" just keep in mind that it is Stain - Less, which means that it is not impervious to rust, just holds up well against it

Picked up the car this afternoon. After driving a base Cobalt for the past 19 days, I had forgotten the purr of an SRT exhaust!
As to reapplying the Diamond Gloss paint treatment at Ziebart, the body shop is saying that I will void their paint warranty if I put anything on it before 60 days but Ziebart says that I will void their warranty if it isn't applied within 30 days.
There is now a vibration/noise at some RPM's where the dash meets the front passenger-side door. And my car was completely silent inside before the accident.
To top everything off, I discovered a gouge in the leather steering wheel cover (about 2.5 inches long) while I was driving home from work tonight. The body shop guarantees "100% Customer Satisfaction" so we'll see where this goes.

You can wax a car 30 days after it's painted, so wait until day 29 or 30 and apply it, how is the body shop going to know? Secondly, the car looks great from the exterior, seems like they did a great job with the paint. The rattle could be something so simple as a loose dash clip, but the steering wheel I would look into.
