Maserati to base upcoming junior Quattroporte on next Chrysler 300?
1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati
1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati
As excitement and anticipation mount for the arrival of a new "entry-level" sedan from Maserati, so do the rumors. The new model, expected to slot in below the current Quattroporte, has been the subject of much conjecture and speculation, but the latest hits a little closer to home.
According to reports, the junior QP could share its underpinnings with the next Chrysler 300C. This in contrast with previous reports that the Trident marque was looking to develop a new platform for the model, a move that would be decidedly more expensive for a Fiat/Chrysler empire already spread too thin. (Closer collaboration is expected between the Chrysler and Lancia divisions, which could also lead to a next-gen 300-based successor to the discontinued Lancia Thesis.)
As sources point out, this wouldn't be the first time that Maserati and Chrysler have gotten into bed with each other. Close ties between onetime Chrysler chief Lee Iacocca and Alejandro de Tomaso (of the eponymous sportscar company that once owned Maserati) led to the disastrous badge-whoring exercise known as the Chrysler TC by Maserati (pictured above). If the latest reports come to fruition, we'd certainly hope the outcome would be in a different league altogether.

Ok... i finally read up on the Alfa Romeo And FIAT relationship. lolMyNeonSaysHi wrote:Alfa Giuliettas Invade Michigan Freeway
Fiat isn't expected to bring the Alfa Giulietta to these shores for a few years, but a truckload were spotted heading north on I-75 toward Chrysler HQ. Why all black? To match Sergio's sweaters.
I like this car, not a fan of its front bumper's tinnny little odd shaped grill, but im sure dodge will put their own touch into it.

2011 Chrysler 200 sedan teased, preliminary specs revealed
REPORT: Jeep Pickup Truck Coming For 2012
Leaked 2011 Challenger brochure: 305-HP V6, 475 HP in the SRT 6.4
These teaser images don't reveal much, but what we see are some of the finer details of the 2011 Chrysler 200 sedan, set to replace the Sebring when it hits dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2010. Chrysler is counting on the 200 to make up some of the market share that the Sebring failed to gain, and if new products like the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee are anything to base judgments on, we fully expect the 200 to be a giant step in the right direction.
Details are slim, but we do know that the 200 will be available with a choice of two powertrains. The standard engine is Chrysler's 2.4-liter inline-four, mated to either a four- or six-speed automatic transmission, and the automaker's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 will be available on higher-end trim levels. Rated at 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, the Pentastar should provide more than enough grunt for Chrysler's new mid-size luxury sedan, and a six-speed auto 'box should make for relatively respectable fuel economy numbers, too.
We anticipate that Chrysler will release more images and details within the next few weeks, so stay tuned for the full raft of details.
REPORT: Jeep Pickup Truck Coming For 2012
According to PickupTrucks.com's always tuned-in sources, production on the Gladiator-like truck we mentioned earlier this week will start in the 3rd quarter of 2011 as a 2012 model. It'll be based off the Wrangler Unlimited platform. I'll take two.
Leaked 2011 Challenger brochure: 305-HP V6, 475 HP in the SRT 6.4
Specific outputs have been put to engines in the 2011 Dodge Challenger lineup, and the increases are substantial at the bottom and the top of the range: the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 will turn out 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet, the 5.7-liter Hemi will crank 379 hp and 410 lb-ft., while the 6.4-liter Hemi tops the charts with 475 hp and 460 lb-ft.
That's a 50-hp and 18 lb-ft. rise for the 3.6-liter V6 over the current 3.5-liter, which ought to make Dodge's muscle car much more competitive with base models of the Camaro and Mustang. Moving up, there is a 50-hp bump in ponies alongside a 40-lb-ft. increase in torque for the top-shelf 6.4-liter that should help the SRT8 compete with Ford's GT500. The man in the middle, the 5.7-liter, makes do with an increase of seven horsepower and ten pound-feet.
Much more intriguing than that is the tale that Ralph Gilles, Dodge's CEO, said that the SRT8 would do the 0-to-60 run in less than four seconds. The current Challenger has been tested by various outlets to run anywhere from 4.8 to 5.5 seconds. Dodge doesn't officially list its own time, but the EVIC information page on the Challenger site displays a 4.90-second time.
If Gilles did actually say the 2011 would get it done in "the 3-second zone," then there's a year's haul of Deadly Catch in Denmark because 50 additional horsepower won't cut an entire second. A Cadillac CTS-V weighs about 60 pounds more than the Challenger SRT8 but has 81 more ponies that help it break the four-second barrier. The truth is in there somewhere – the question is, where is it, and how fast will it be? Thanks for the tip, challenger64hemi!

5th gen Dodge Viper going to be produced:
t yesterday's Chrysler dealer conference, the Pentastar people publicly revealed new or updated products from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Fiat. But there was more on stage than just a facelifted Town & Country and a federalized Fiat 500.
Towards the end of his remarks, Chrysler Group and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne pulled a Steve Jobs-style "one more thing," and onto the stage rolled the 2012 Dodge Viper. According to our sources, the design was all-new, complete with an aggressive greenhouse and fresh, angular sheetmetal.
Chrysler has already confirmed that the next Viper is on its way in two years' time, but showing it off this early is a clear indication that work is well underway. There's still some debate about what powertrain will be fitted to the thoroughly updated Viper, but early reports indicate that the same 8.4-liter V10 could carry on, possibly with the inclusion of Fiat's MultiAir technology to reduce emissions and boost output over 700 horsepower. An entry-level V8 option is a possibility, and there's little doubt that Dodge is tapping Ferrari's engineers to advise on everything from handling to steering and stability control systems.
Another supposed cameo at the event was a Jeep pickup, similar to the Gladiator concept, however, we've yet to confirm its attendance or any serious production plans. But for the time being, we're content with the knowledge that Dodge's next supercar is in the wings and we'll being seeing it in person within the next several months.

New Charger:
Dodge continues to go backwards with its design, this time reaching all the way to '60s with the full-width rear light display rimmed by LEDs. The elevated rear and hunched shoulders meld with the more detailed and aggressive front fascia. The whole look encourages the viewer to suddenly remember the Coke-bottle shapes of the era. Is Lyndon Johnson still in the Oval Office?
The new Dodge Charger's coming in two flavors for 2011. The Diet Coke option is the Charger SE with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. For those wanting more of a Jolt, Chrysler's still offering the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in either R/T or R/T AWD trim.

Talk about wise spending on Fiat's part to freshen up what DCX/Cerberus handed down to them! Definitely an improvement, kind of retro-"Coke bottle" Charger styling circa 1971? I still think that the car should have been badged as a Coronet or Polara since it has four doors (maybe the next gen will be a more "true" Charger- a coupe).

They aren't going to make the Charger a 2 door. That would take them out of a very large segment that probably makes them a lot of money. People who are looking for a Full size car are looking for 4 doors. They have a 2 door sporty car with the Challenger and to make another full size 2 door car would just be silly. People just need to realize the "Charger" name is just that, a name.

The Polara also came in a 2 door. I'm not sure I ever seen a 2 door Coronet tho. But bringing back the Polara name would be fine with me.Midnight_Rider wrote: I still think that the car should have been badged as a Coronet or Polara since it has four doors (maybe the next gen will be a more "true" Charger- a coupe).
Although, I think the Monaco is a closer match to the new design.
