EBAY underdrive pulley review

Post by BlackRoseRacing » Fri Jan 13, 2006 7:02 am

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Light-We ... 3002QQrdZ1

I did a search before I posted this :P
Has anyone picked one of these up and have you had any problems?
For the price I was considering on picking one up since I lost the auction on a fog light...
Any info would help, I'm pretty sure others have the same questions about it too...

Mine had burrs on the pulley grooves that I had to remove. They weren't huge but I thought they might cause a problem with cutting the belt. I've had mine on and off a couple of times, no issues there. It's a good piece for the price.

Personally thats a piece i would spend a little more to make sure it wont throw belts, go for the MPx :)

well for that price i have to say if it throws belts it doesnt matter, you can use it as a cup holder and it was still worth the price heh.

The thing is..
I brought up a topic that no one really has an answer too :P
Im still considering buying one of these, since no one really has any posts or results of problems using it. I know from what I read the Ebay CAI and oil catch cans work great.
I was going to search the "org" to see if anyone has posted any topics overthere but I cant figure out how to navigate that site...

Belt throwing is usually caused by bent or missed aligned pulleys which may or may not be the fault of the pulley. Depending if it was made or installed correctly.
I haven't experienced any problems with belt throwing.

I have the silver one on my car, works just fine, especially for the price. My only problem is that now my acc belyt has stretched out to far and i need a 490 instead of a 500

I personally would spend a bit more for something like that, but I read above that you dont have that much money to spend. I had the Unorthodox Racing Pulley one time, but had to send it back :( I hear the MPx one is very good though. Why not save up and get somethiing you know wont throw belts or have rough spots?

those doesnt seem as bad reviews to me, if it has burrs who cares, remove them.

PS: drop the damn baby :P j/K

I was almost ready too when I was posting....
Im basically trying to get some info to back this item up, I know im not the only one that has considered it. As for just switching to a MDx pulley, well I hear the same comments about other manufacturors also.
Does anyone have any reviews on this item? acutaly experience?
If not, im going to take the plunge and pick one up to see what happens..

ordered one last night, now I got to do some research on what size belts to use. Im thinking there going to be the same as the MPx pulley.

Alternator - 5040320
Accessory - 5040500

"Those are the Dayco Belt numbers I got from Modern when I got my UDP"

We will see what happens...

You may want to go with a 490 instead of a 500, my 500 belt has streteched out to far and i need to get a 490 one asap. My review was a positive review by the way.

Actually get the 500, I just tried to put on the 490 and it was to short, the tensioner couldn't even loosen enough to let it fit. I got the 500 to fit correctly though, turns out the pulley wasnt fully seated and the edge of the belt was rubbing against the edge of the pulley and making the squealing noise. A little lovin with the impact wrench solved that problem.

the pulley showed up today, it actually looks fairly well designed! No burrs, no problems at all!
The box it came in had a Megan Racing decal on it, so I decided to search for them to see what I can find....

http://meganracing.com/

I also did some review research for almost an hour, and I have not found to many bad reviews on any of there products. Hopefully this week I'll get it installed and I'll post results here..

megan and obx share the same products, they are actually just name brands that sell some other companies products. obx was doing it first, megan started as a ebay company selling cheap knock off crap car parts but then i assume they found out where obx gets there stuff and wham they actually had worthwhile products.. but the exact same as what obx was selling. its all jap crap anyways =P

the only problem with the obx/megan pulleys, were mislabeled boxes, and people getting the wrong gen pulley. if both belt grooves are the same its for a 2g, if the ps/ac is a V groove then its for 1g. thats the only problem.

^^^
I actually questioned that too....
The box was marked 95-99, and was hand written otherwise for a 00-up. The pulley I receive has no V grooves, just the multirib. Thanks for the add on, others will use that if there interested in this also....thanks again

yeah i suggest any one buying a ebay pulley to email the seller and verify the type of grooves on the pulley to save any headaches down the road.

2g = both grooves = same (multirib groove)
1g = 1 multirib groove, 1 v groove

one thing to note, does the ebay/obx/megan have the bolt holes for the pulley remover? otherwise youll mangle the pulley if and when you choose to remove it.
