Which Snail?

Post by MoparOso » Wed Sep 18, 2013 12:48 am

While I completely understand turbocharging and have owned many turbo equipped vehicles, I don't know how to size a turbo to an application.

I need to know which turbo to use in my build. There is a fresh low-compression long block in the equation. I'm looking to make about 400 whp. I would like something that will spool quickly and make strong power throughout the rev range. Intelligent input will be highly valued.

Thanks
Michael

Sorry about the failure to provide enough info. It's an 8.9:1 NGC vehicle with a Magnum head running a number 12 Crane cam. The rod and pistons are forged. Vehicle is just going to be a street car and not raced.

What kind of fuel will you be running? The more detonation resistance, the harder we can work a smaller unit to get quick response.

I would say with pump 93, you want something in the 55-58mm compressor inducer range. With e85 or pump race gas, 52-55mm.

The one we would probably do the most for 400 in pump gas would be the s256NET, although the BMW252 will make just as much power if not more with much faster spool. It will just cost lots more.
