Re: 2003 SRT DD

I was just relieved because the rear bearings are a bolt in piece that I can do at home. If the parking brake came apart, I can fix that too.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

I thought the mileage was worth a picture. The gauges light up surprisingly well. No hot spots. It was like that when I bought the car. If it was up to me, I'd have left them stock. I think the green looks good. However, the HVAC matches the gauges and he did it right, so I'm just going to leave it ...

Re: 2003 SRT DD

I had an epiphany yesterday, regarding the wheel bearing noise. I was certain it was coming from the driver's side front, but when I jack the car up and spin the wheel, it's silent and there's no resistance at all. So I jacked up the rear this time and spun the rear driver's side wheel. Bingo. Inter...

Re: 2003 SRT DD

So as it turns out, the battery and alternator are fine. No parasitic drain. It was a faulty starter. It’s been replaced and the car starts right up again. Now it just needs a wheel bearing.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

It has an aftermarket stereo in it with a disc changer, an amp, and satellite radio. I unplugged the disc changer a while back, but that obviously didn't help. We'll see if it's draining anything tomorrow. I don't really like the stereo, so changing it out won't bother me at all.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

Brand new battery died. The car has a parasitic drain happening somewhere. I have a friend who's an electrical expert coming to check it out on Friday. Hopefully he can find the source of the drain. I also have an appointment on the 23rd to have the wheel bearing replaced. Hopefully I'll be able to ...

Re: Worn rear control arms

DCR sells upgraded arms that are adjustable. You can get them in a hardcore version with heim joints, or you can get them with bushing ends. They're pretty affordable IMO.

PT cruiser brakes can be pieced together for well under a grand and they make a good upgrade over the factory brakes.

Re: Cylinder head upgrade questions

Stiffer springs would be good to run with that cam. Crane makes good springs. Don't worry about the retainers; just reuse your stock ones. You can get everything at Modern Performance. As for the valve cover, the only other variant is the metal valve cover that came on the Magnum (R/T and ACR) motor...

Re: Brake issues and Upgrade

I believe any PT cruiser knuckle will bolt up. You want to find an early PT with steel wheels (super base model) to maintain your tuning radius. The upper level PTs and SRT knuckles are identical and they provide a pretty terrible turning radius. You should have some new wheel bearings and hubs pres...

Re: Brake issues and Upgrade

I'm not sure what's causing your lockup issue, but there aren't any upgrade kits for your car unless you swap to a set of PT Cruiser or SRT-4 knuckles. Then you have access to a couple of BBKs, primarily the Wilwood kit.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

I finally installed the rear coilovers this weekend. Install went alright. I got a set of ratcheting wrenches recently and I don't know how I've lived without them before now. They helped a lot for this install. I was going to install my Prothane rear end links, only to find out that the car already...

Re: Cylinder head upgrade questions

I ported a Magnum head and shaved .030 off of it. The car ran great with this setup, without messing with the computer.

As for blueprinting a PCM... I've never heard of that.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

Now that the snow has mostly melted here, I drove the car for the first time in about a month. The noise that I suspect is a front right wheel bearing, has gotten really loud. It gets noticeably worse when I turn left. It sounds like a brake pad dragging, but doesn't change when I hit the brakes. It...

Re: MyNeonSaysHi Mod Log: Stone White

My first SRT shifted perfectly the whole time I owned it. I never had issues at all. This current one shifts like crap and gives me all kinds of issues. It's super notchy and hates to downshift into second. I guess some are better than others. You've been lucky.

Too bad it's in rough shape. A carbon hood would look great on that car. Paint matched will still look good, though.

Why not just switch to a Magnum intake instead of making a duplicate version of it? They can be ported and smoothed out for better flow.

Must've been a Magnum thing. My old '02 base had zero issues with the UDP. It didn't make a noticeable bump in power for me either.

Everywhere I'm searching shows the knuckle without the bearing or hub in it. That would be a killer deal if it was assembled, though.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

You can see how filthy that part of the K-frame is, because the stock axle was also losing grease in that area. That mound is pretty new, though. I wiped it off after taking the picture, so I can check on it again to see if there's new buildup. It definitely looks like it's coming from the rear boot...

I raised the front end about half an inch this weekend. Now it doesn't scrape coming in and out of my driveway. I inspected the axles a bit while I had the wheels off. The passenger side looks fine, despite making noise and now popping from time to time. The driver's side looks like this: https://i....

I was going to get a set of those originally, but they're way more expensive. I got my axles for $100. The Gators are $500 for the pair. Like they say, you get what you pay for. I guess I'm going to drive on these wobbly ones until I can afford some nicer ones.

Aaaaaand now the car is vibrating during acceleration. Surefire sign of a bad axle. It's minor, but it's noticeable. Maybe these Trakmotive axles aren't so good after all. Fuck.

Re: 2003 SRT DD

How far off are the holes? Could you oval a couple out to make room, or is it too far? I think I want them to be grey, like the color I painted the Silverstones on the R/T. I feel a little iffy about painting the RPF1s, though. I can dip them again, but I'd rather powdercoat them. Especially now tha...
