Re: The Official eBay, Craigslist, etc Links Thread for Cars

Or the old school cars I would see growing up, with house speakers sitting in the back seat (or back window) wired to the stereo, but not mounted to the car. Talk about projectiles. So sketchy.

Good thing it's an auto. With any sort of performance, a good launch would shoot that HU onto the floor.

Re: Street Truck

Soooooo I guess the transmission needs a rebuild. I'm not surprised, since the sound it was making didn't sound like a throwout bearing at all. Bad internal bearings. I can't wait until they quote me a price for the rebuild. Fun times.

Re: Street Truck

Well, I dropped the truck off at the shop last night. It's going to get a new clutch kit, flywheel, and rear main seal replaced. Let's hope I can afford to pick it up when they're done! It's a good shop that's really close to home. They quoted me half what another shop quoted me and they're much fri...

Re: Street Truck

I don't say this out loud very often, for fear of being stoned to death, but I actually really dislike lifted trucks. I think they look stupid. I love lowered trucks, though. Bagged trucks are cool, but I prefer static drops. I don't know why. I see regular cab trucks like two-seat muscle cars. Drop...

Since this is officially a project log, I'm going to continue with tradition and add a post with all of the mods on the truck. I will update this post as I make changes to it: Exterior: eBay headlights eBay tail lights Debadged Line-X bed liner Leer canopy (removed) Interior: Bucket seat swap Kenwoo...

Re: New Truck

I thought about starting a project log, but this is a Neon site after all. I don't think people are going to be stoked to read about a Dakota. Seems more off-topic. What do you think? I'm open to what you suggest.

Re: New Truck

This truck gets 19 mpg according to the overhead console. Not bad for a V8. I'm sure the canopy helps with that. But like you said...old man vibes. I put a hard tonneau cover on my old Hemi Ram and I easily gained two MPG. That was with a lead foot. The one cool thing about the bolt pattern is that ...

Here it is: https://i.imgur.com/87uEcaql.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uwjcfill.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IzrxbSEl.jpg I'm going to paint the tailgate to match and get rid of the eBay lighting. I'm unsure about the canopy. It was a $1500 piece and it can be useful, but I'm not a fan of it in general. I'll e...

Aare you going back with the OEM tail lights?
Heck yes. OEM red.

The 4.7 seems to be a good motor. I've been doing some research and the trans noise might actually be the input shaft bearing, instead of the throwout bearing. I might end up taking it to a trans shop, depending on the cost.

Street Truck

So I found a unicorn. It's a 2003 Dodge Dakota. Black Sport. Regular cab, short bed, 2WD, 4.7 V8, and...a manual transmission. A five-speed stick with a V8! These are incredibly rare. This one isn't perfect, but it's an excellent platform to have fun with. I'll upload some photos when I get a chance...

182,840 miles. Quite a bit, but you wouldn't know by looking at it. It was a really good car, once I sorted out all the leaks and issues it had when I bought it.

Re: 2003 SRT

Well, she's gone. Went to a really nice younger guy who's had seven SRT's in the past. He even pulled up in another black SRT to buy mine. He bought it for basically full price, so it's whatever. I already miss it, though.

Time for another project.

Re: D.J. ºº

I remember buying a rear strut tower brace from Howell Automotive, back in '02. I had to flip it and re-drill the holes because it was made to fit a 2000 without the center seat belt. Howell never changed it because Howell. I also had to delete my center rear belt.

Re: 2003 SRT

No problems at all. I'm just looking for something new. I've already had one low-baller. I didn't even bother responding to him. I may end up keeping it if I can't find a good buyer. I won't sell it to a kid for his first car and I won't accept any low offers. I'm asking $5,000, but I'd take $4,500....

Re: 2003 SRT

Well, in kind of sad news, the car is for sale. I think I'm just getting bored with Neons for the time being. I have been craving a RWD project for a while and now is as good a time as any to switch it up. Hopefully I can get what I want from the car to put toward something (relatively) good. Wish m...

Word is he bought it for around $20k, which sounds fair. I don't see that thing going for more than $30-35K tops, and that's if he gets lucky. He's delusional.

EDIT: Well holy shit, it's already at $38k. I don't see it going much higher, though.

Re: MyNeonSaysHi Mod Log: Stone White

The Countergram. I've been looking at these as well. I think the black/polished ones would look great on my car. I'm scared of the offset, though. Since my 35mm offset rims are so close to the front coils, I don't know that a 40 offset would clear them. I don't want to run big spacers, either. How's...

Re: 2003 SRT

I've seen the ones on eBay. There's a stock one going for $35 that I've been eyeing. Still seems expensive. I need to find a local yard that has some Neons in it and just pull one for cheap. It doesn't have to be an SRT version for paint. I painted one years back and the masking isn't bad.
