Re: Random posting

Being an '04 neon, swapping in the PT engine would have been relatively painless. Especially when you have the entire donor car to get all the little bits and pieces from. All you would have needed was to take the complete engine assy with the mounts, and bolt it into the neon, and extend the ECT se...

Re: 2019 Dayton Spring meet

I kind of liked BJ's as a meeting place for food. The Wife and I ate at a Red Robin in North Olmsted OH, and neither of us were happy with the food quality, and it was fairly pricey for what it was. I'm not sure I'll make this meet, but I thought I would put that out there. I know David wasn't happy...

Re: Hello Neon drivers!

Unfortunately the 2gn neons tend to rot out badly in the salt belt. You'll want to check the crossmember for the front suspension, as well as the lower control arms, as they can rot pretty bad too. The 2003 through 2005 crossmembers aren't as bad, but they are not immune to rusting out. I have seen ...

Unless the engine shut off, the cam sensor won't leave you stranded. The PCM just fires the injectors in batch mode vs sequential. For future reference, if it did kill the engine, you should be able to unplug the connector, and run in batch mode. It is very simple to get to on DOHC engines, so knowi...

RPM doesn't really matter. If damage is happening, it's happening. It's just a matter of how many times the piston hits the valve(s) after the first hit. The simplest way to see if you need to pull the head, is to remove the valve cover, then pull the rocker arm assy's, and lay a straight edge acros...

Re: Manny's 96 turbo 1gn: update 4/27/19

I never had an issue with the XJ hood latches, but then I kept them well oiled with motor oil. I learned my lesson on another car, that the hood catch rusted, and would not let you finish opening the hood after it popped. That was a SOB to get it to move, and then keep from re seizing, even after I ...

The bearings can also rattle in the trans with low fluid. But yeah, I have never heard anything like you describe from low fluid in an MTX. The oscillating sound might be from a CV joint. Or possibly from tires. Swapping wheels around might eliminate it, if it is tires creating a weird harmonic soun...

Re: Manny's 96 turbo 1gn: update 4/27/19

Meh, it's CF, so there isn't much weight there. It doesn't look like the front edge is touching. Any small scratches on the underside can be easily covered, as it's just primer, and it isn't like it's ever going to rust. Maybe if it was nice and shiny, it would bother me, if it were mine. As far as ...

.080" over? I doubt the cylinder walls would be thick enough to support much over stock power, let alone 125 hp per cylinder. If you're going to stroke a 2.0 to make that kind of power, you may as well just start off with a 2.4. You could always have a custom de stroked crank/pistons made, if you do...

If this car did not have $8,500.00 in customization, it would still be worth $3000 due to the recent mechanical service and new tires.

Psh, insurance here would pay out maybe $1200 for a total loss.

My '01 hasn't had the static grounds since I bought it in 2004 with 69,000 miles. They were broken when I got it. I repaired them, but they only lasted maybe 10,000 miles before the wire broke again. My '99 doesn't have them either, and it has 270,070 on the originals. They should have stayed with t...

I think my '01's passenger rear bearing went at ~172,000, so....

But the rest have 210,000 on them. Go figure.

The '99 has ~270,000 something on all of them. Friggin show off.

Re: 2000 Neon shuts off while driving

The fuel pump relay contacts could be going bad. That would be about the only thing that would make the most sense from this. Crank sensors can shut the engine down with zero codes, but usually the engine either never starts again with that sensor, or it takes 5 to 20 minutes before the engine will...

Yeah, it is probably all grass parking. But given the heat, I would dread it being asphalt or concrete. Plus it would mean they would have to use water barrels to hold the tents down. That would probably take out the option of club tents, as driving stakes in the ground is faster/less work/wasted wa...

Check to see if there is a battery blanket on the battery, and if it has an electrical connector on the side. The ambient air temp sensor on the elbow going into the air filter box can also give a battery light if it is unplugged or bad. 2003 and some 2004 neons used a sensor on the battery blanket ...

The OEM gaskets are pretty decent, until you try to re use them. Once the screws are loosened, you may as well plan on replacing them. I used a hollow white door seal gasket on my '99. I glued it to the tail light and let the rubber type material seal against the body. Cost about $8 and time/effort....
