Re: No VIN so probably not a good idea

Most likely to keep scammers from copying the VIN, and trying to sell the car on line. Criminals try it all the time, and also copy VIN's from on line postings to scam people. But the flip side is, in most states, it is also illegal to have your VIN covered. Kind of a damned if you do, and damned if...

Re: Random posting

What does posting a link for Prius's for sale have anything to do with Jerry's post? Basically your link was just as bad as the spam that the russian spammers are polluting our site with. To Jerry: with the standard head, there won't be any difference between the cast manifold and the Magnum header ...

Re: Midnight_Rider's progress log

Braided steel lines will only help with initial pedal feel, they won't actually improve braking enough to justify the cost for street use. If you were constantly doing competition track time, where every fraction of a second counts, then they are worth it.

Re: Random posting

As for the Magnum getting less MPG, idk....I guess it depends on driving habits..... The head was the only change, driving habits stayed the same (set Speed Control and steer), so not sure how else you would account for the loss in economy. Both heads were mildly ported. Just enough to clean up cas...

Re: Midnight_Rider's progress log

Bedding in the pads is something the shop should do, as it does get things hot. I don't know I would recommend doing it until you get brake fade though. Seems like a good way to warp brand new rotors. They used to include instructions on bedding the pads with new brake parts. You can bed them in jus...

Re: Midnight_Rider's progress log

It's been a humid summer. Possibly not being driven regularly has created extra oxidation on the rotors.

Unless your garage is air conditioned, that moisture in the air is going to do it's evil deeds.

gomma? Is that the version where you forgot your dentures? :D

One of the houses we looked at had a spiral staircase that decened two stories, and not much for a railing.

We passed on that one. It was a bizarre creepy ass house anyways.

Re: Random posting

I was getting the 40 hwy with an '02-'04 Magnum cam, Magnum header, '02 R/T PCM, Ghetto IM, and 60mm TB. Full accessories. For strictly hwy use, I got the same mileage with 1/2 tank of E10 and 1/2 of E85. This was back when I was making regular trips to Flint, and had E85 access both ways. Made the ...

Re: Random posting

At one point I had considered taking a magnum manifold and cutting away the longer runners and seeing how just the short runners worked. I’m guessing they would be decent but the big plenum it has probably helps. The longer runners probably help out with that plenum volume when the short runners ar...

Just sucks it weighs a ton. Too bad they didn't make them from plastic. Lighter, and less thermally conductive. The weight was one reason why I never replaced my GB IM with the Magnum IM I have collecting dust. I even have the proper support bracket for it somewhere, and bored the inlet to 58mm... T...

Re: MyNeonSaysHi Mod Log: Stone White

I think clear side markers, with a translucent pearl coat would look decent on the white, while still being functional.

If I were to paint them like that, I would just shave them, and be done with it. To me it looks cheap. White is a bitch, because it shows all the shadows.

But that's just me.

Re: Weird valve rattle?

If it was the lifters making noise only above 3000 rpm, I would suspect an oiling issue, or weak springs. Otherwise it would be a constant. When people say "valve rattle", back in the day, it was actually detonation, as valves really don't rattle. If they got that loose, there would be other obvious...

Re: Weird valve rattle?

I will change them back when i get home Change what? If all is tight and sealed, the only thing that I would change is the coil. The rest of it would be too much effort, and may not fix the issue, unless it is the CAI. You could pull the CAI tube from the inner fender, and take it for a short drive...

Re: Weird valve rattle?

Jeremy's suggestions are also good. But maybe a better description might help. Is it a rattle, or a spark knock sound? Normally a header and muffler will have about zero impact engine performance on an otherwise stock 2.0. In addition to the header seal, check the flex joint on the catalytic convert...

Re: Weird valve rattle?

Unless the stock coil was bad, the MSD was/is of no benefit. In most cases, the oem coil puts out more spark. If the original is still good, I would put it back on as a first step in diagnosing it.

Beer cans are tossed to avoid an open container charge. Soda cans, there's no excuse, not that driving while intoxicated is excusable either, but that's why you'll find more beer cans on the average beside the road than soda. Beer cans is about all that's tossed into our yard. It would be nice if te...

I think 2000 was the only year that had them? My '01 was built in 2000, and it doesn't have a cubby light or wiring. If 2000 MY was indeed all that had them, a 2000 dash harness would not work in your SRT anyways, even if you could source a new harness. Even an '01/'02 harness has different firewall...

Allegedly still available, $9.00 from Mopar. Probably not going to get new factory wiring for it though, as like I said, I think they decontented those after 2000. You would still need to do like said, run power from the console shifter light. IIRC bulb number 37 and 72 are the same base. But for Da...

Unfortunately, finding a buyer for that price could be tough. Unless you get special insurance, getting standard car insurance to even insure a 21 year old car for full coverage, other than a loan, and actually paying that in the event of total loss might be tougher. Not sure if a bank would loan th...

Re: If you could have another car that's not a Neon... which?

Fuel quality plays a huge part in obtainable fuel mileage. No other way to explain a 3 to at times 5 mpg difference between tankfulls, when I drive pretty much the same route consistently, and use the same station to fill up, with the cruise control set. But then that's what you get, living in a sta...
