Regarding hatchbacks, I'd say, at least from what I've seen in my life, the Golf/Rabbit was and is still very popular here, so the Europeans at least got that right. Well space is more of an issue here. :P My brother has a Ford F150 heavy duty dual cab and he can never fit in just one parking spot....
