Your best bet is going to be figuring out WHY your ac isnt working. Its going to take FAR more work to swap over the entire ac system than it would to simply repair your existing system. How would I verify that the cat is not clogged? It does appear to have been replaced.. it looks newer than the rest of the exhaust- but I did consider a clogged cat as well..

Can I remove the cat and clean it with carb cleaner or something?

Just did a compression test- 180psi across the board. Plugs are very black with carbon, I assume it's running rich. My first thought was an o2 sensor, but wouldn't a bad o2 cause a check engine light?
