Re: Parts Compatibility
I broke the oil dipstick tube off when I was moving the block around. Does anyone know if an autozone spectre brand dipstick would fit without leaks or if a 96-98. Sebring dip tube would work. I’m having trouble finding any other replacements

Re: Run Stand Hookup
Yikes!!! That's a little more work than I would like to do. I like the idea of just mounting a starter on, this way I can at least check oil pressure and flush the oil before it ever runs. I also wanted to flush the coolant passages throughout the engine, any recommendations on how to do this withou...

Run Stand Hookup
I would like to run a rebuilt engine on stand, but I need to know how to wire things up to get it started. How would I hookup the ecu, engine wiring harness, starter to power without using the fuse box?

Re: Parts Compatibility
I have the engine back together with the correct crankshaft. I'm doing the timing stuff on it now and when I rotate the crank counter clockwise the belt works its way on to the cam sprocket water pump and tensioner. But when I rotate it clockwise it works its way about a 1/4 in off. I'm thinking one...

Re: Parts Compatibility
I have it all torn back apart and I’ll clean up the original crank to better assess it’s damage. I know 1 & 4 rod journals are scored but not excessively so I’ll see if I can polish it out

Re: Parts Compatibility
So the crank sensor on the 02 is an inductive sensor so it reads magnetic flux. So every time the lobe rotates in front of the sensor a voltage is created so it should be able to communicate with the ecm

Re: Parts Compatibility
The original crank is badly scored and would require a grind and oversized bearings. I don’t see any markings or differences in the cranks loves that my sensor would be reading. How does the sensor on the 95-02 read the position?

Re: Parts Compatibility
So now that the engine is all put together, I realized that the old crank and new crank are not the same. The new crank must be from 03-05 because it has the crank position sensor wheel toward the flywheel end of it where as the 98-02 cranks don’t have this and the sensor is on the pulley end. Will ...

Re: Rebuilding a Cylinder head
Not part of the cylinder head but I'm at the point were I'm installing the pistons. I'm having trouble getting the piston pin into the connecting rod. Am I supposed to heat up the con rod to expand the bore a little bit? or do something else?

Cool thanks. Any tricks with using a valve springs compressor on the stiff crane springs. It took me about an hour to seat one retainer and keepers

I'm rebuilding my 2002 2.0l neon engine and am planning on putting DOHC pistons in from a 1997 neon. From my understanding the 02 engine is an A588 and the 97 engine is an ECC....but I've read on here somewhere that the blocks are the same (which is why the DOHC pistons work in a SOHC block) the onl...

Engine specs
Does anyone know what these specs are?
Stock cylinder head cc
Deck height
Piston cc
I'm trying to figure out what I need to do with with my head to get a certain DCR but I'm having trouble finding this info online.

Engine overhaul and upgrades
So awhile ago my 02 neon engine died. Driving to school somehow I got a hole in my oil pan and I didn't catch it so I drove the car with basically no oil for maybe a mile before it died. Not entirely sure what is damaged yet because I haven't taken it apart. I kinda want to do a minor NA engine buil...

500 HP?????
Is it possible to achieve 500hp with a Neon engine? I would imagine an srt4 could but would have to be built. What about a 2.0 sohc? What kind of HP do you think a 2.0 could make with a stroker crank with .080 over sized pistons, big cams, and a turbo. My engine recently died and I'm contemplating b...

Re: Cylinder head upgrade questions
So my head passed inspection with just a few leaky valves that will be dealt with after I port and polish. I did have a question however with the comp 400 cam. What springs and retainers should go with that? I would imagine stiffer springs are required but I haven’t seen any companies really recomme...

Re: Intake manifolds
So I managed to get the flange matched up nicely to the dimensions of the cylinder head. Essentially I modeled a flange that is port matched. I want to do a quick print of my final design to see if there is anything I want to change and to check the gasket seals and o ring seal for the fuel injector...

Re: Brake issues and Upgrade
Brake lines were the next thing I was going to look at but I planned on doing that with the BBK. Is it any year pt? And what else has to be changed with it? You don’t really every trust your car fully until you brake hard at high speed

Brake issues and Upgrade
So I am the third owner of my neon and when I got it I noticed that when I went hard on the brakes the front driver side would lock the wheel up easily. This would be the only wheel that would lock up. I have gotten up to 100 mph or so and stood on the brakes and still the only wheel that would lock...

Re: Cylinder head upgrade questions
I am honestly so glad I don't have to swap the pcm :D I might just go with the comp 400 cam it seems like they are more available for better prices. This car is my daily driver so I am really not that concerned about getting all the horsepower I can out of the head yet. I have been porting and polis...

Cylinder head upgrade questions
I bought a cylinder head to go on my 02 neon and want to get it decked .030 and do a port and polish. I also wanted to put a crane 12 in with all the necessary springs and such but remember the whole electronics aspect to the upgrade. Do I have to mess with the PCM to make these upgrades worth it? I...

Re: Intake manifolds
So if anyone cares for an update, I got a manifold of ebay for $40 and have used that to dimension the flange for the intake. I would start printing it now but I thought that I should make sure it fits the cylinder head nicely (port match and all) so I bought a used cylinder head too (no I didn't ju...

Re: 10mm Spacers
What is the thickest spacer you would run? I planned on replacing bushings with polyurethane bushings to be able to act semi normally with the increased leverage arm I’d be creating. As for the wheel bearings, I think those will last plenty long and when they go out I’ll just replace them.

Re: 10mm Spacers
Has anyone ran 25mm spacers all the way around? I want to bring the wheel flush to the fender and 25mm is the measurement I ended up with can anyone confirm. The 25mm spacers have built in studs but will I be able to bolt them to the hub without replacing the stock studs?

Re: Intake manifolds
I've thought about it but they are hard to find for a good price and I want to play around with my CAD software and 3d printer and see if I can't make something capable of the duties of an intake. I'm an engineering student too so I like making things difficult. If no one is able to get me a diagram...
