Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Thanks for that, that list came in very handy and I think I have everything I need. Reservoir is installed as is the vacuum line. Switch pods, steering wheel cover and clockspring are ready to go on once I’ve convinced the steering wheel to free itself from the column. Only issue is the Cruise servo...

Cruise control help please!

Hi, I’m on the final stretch of retrofitting cruise control to my export (RHD) Neon, only the parts I was sent seems to be missing a part that will let me attach the servo bracket to the battery tray. The issue is most of you have your servos on the offside suspension tower, and thats what all the h...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Thanks this is very helpful.

I’m waiting to hear back from the breaker I’m talking to on what it would cost for everything I need for the cruise control. Seems like installing it is far easier than sourcing all the right parts (At least if like me you have all the wiring there already).

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

That's interesting re. the potential similarities between the 4-speed and the MTX. One of the eBay listings I've been looking at is the cruise control servo w/ cable from a 2002 4-speed... Should be fine for the bracket as I know a breaker who should have one (same guy I'll be getting the clocksprin...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Hi again, I'll have some more photos up soon, all this time in lockdown has allowed me to get on with a few other bits and pieces. I have a question though. I am looking at adding factory cruise control - as it's an export R/T I appear to have all of the wiring ready to go, just need all the compone...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Thanks for the positive messages! I’ve swayed either way about the badges to be honest... I think overall I do like them but I need to think of a way of restoring them on the car (as they’re made of some sort of rubberised material I’m worried that any attempt to remove would damage them). If by som...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

So, following my disappearing act (being active on forums is something I’m working on..) I thought I’d post on the Neon project since the last update. I’d finished the cambelt/water pump/camshaft seal job and ordered that torque strut I mentioned while I had the car in the “service position”. Glad I...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Before or after the seal was replaced? https://i.imgur.com/CP7QdF4.jpg The seal should only go in flush with the head. But as long as it doesn't leak, it should be fine. Is it the picture, or is the sealing surface actually dented in looking? This is post assembly, and no dents on the sealing surfa...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Thanks for all the interest! To give an update, the timing belt job is now all done! I did it over two days - I could have done it in the one but I was defeated by the accessory belt pulley of all things, which I needed to get a tougher socket for. The jobs done in the process: Timing belt Timing be...

Re: Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Awesome! I bet it is very very rare to see a 2nd gen Neon out in the UK. Let along a R/T. I RARELY see 2nd gen R/T's out here in the states now since the car is getting older. Hope you can get that crank pulley off! I am sure some heat will help get it off too. You're right about that, these are su...

Re: Intro (and how I saved an R/T)

Love it! Though I am curious about a few things I don't think I was aware of on export neons. Or maybe you can clarify if some items have been replaced... 2002 R/Ts in the US, only the R/T was applied on front doors. It was only in 2001 where they included the make of the R/T as well. For instance ...

Saving an 02 Neon R/T

Hi everyone, I made an intro post with a backstory to this car, see here: https://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=71037 The car is now based at a lockup a short distance from where I live, so whenever I have time I drive over there to work on the Neon. Here are some photos of where she's been liv...

Trust me, photos make it look a LOT better than in person...

Will be starting a project thread soon to document my journey with getting this fixed up.

Re: Intro (and how I saved an R/T)

Thanks for the welcome. Neon's are very rare here, there are about 70 R/Ts left here according to registration data. So far I have rebuilt the Multi Function switch and repaired the wear to the fog-light lever, which has now sorted that issue (though the next step is to add relays to the Headlight/F...

Intro (and how I saved an R/T)

Hi all from the UK! Decided to join this forum following a stroke of fortune recently. My godfather was the second owner of a 2002 R/T in black, that unfortunately wasn't seeing a lot of use in recent times. During its hibernation, problems became apparent with the Neon that deemed it uneconomical t...
