Re: How-To: Fix a Broken Door Check (save $30-40)

Wish I knew about this before mine tore itself to shreds. However, in the process, I did learn that the checks are physically interchangeable left to right. The only difference is the direction in which the rivets are installed (fear of falling out I guess). It was a lot easier to find a good passen...

In MA, it can snow anytime between November and April. Some years, we've gone the entire holiday season with zero snow only to get hammered in February/March.

Re: If you could have another car that's not a Neon... which?

Realistically, top of my list would be a 1st or 2nd gen Mazda3. The new ones haven't grown on me yet, but the same used to be true about the 2nd gens. Focus is way up there, as is the Forte. Keep in mind this is all taking into consideration that I'd still have the Daytona. If I had to merge the Day...

Nice cars. But for me, the C30 is really the only one I'd consider, purely for the inline 5 and 6-speed combo. It's basically as close to a euro-spec Focus ST as you can get in the US.

Re: Oil light keeps coming on...

Heh, revenge. The mechanical gauge in my Daytona was in at least 2 cars before I got it, and it's in the second one for me. Even with that kind of mileage, I don't worry too much about the line rupturing. And this is in a car right now where 3000rpm cold will put you in triple digit PSI. For the gau...

Do you have room for a mechanical gauge? I second that. It's one of the first things I've done to nearly every car I've owned.

Not to nitpick, but regarding your comment about the air bubble: pressure is pressure, so air changes nothing.

demagnifying = demagnetizing?

I guess I'm lucky. I've still never had any issues with hotel rooms, not with HBW nor Motel 6.

Thanks for the info!

Re: 2003 Neon SE 2.0 -- Mech Tensioner or Hydraulic?

You'll need the mechanical tensioner for your car. Luckily, it's cheaper and more reliable. My car is a very early 2003 (production date July 2002), and mine is mechanical, so I'm sure yours is too.

Gotta add a front wheel bearing to the list. That would be a good thing to do the same time as the front control arms. Need to button up the Daytona first so the Neon can see some down time.

...so as a cheaper backup I'm looking at the Mazda6 with the possibility of waiting to get the turbo 2.5 that they are releasing now. 227hp seems weak to me, although 310lb-ft should feel great in a daily driver. As long as they continue to offer it with a manual transmission, the Mazda6 will alway...

Side note related to infant/toddler seats: my Neon is the only car in my whole family that has a center LATCH location. That's good stuff. I think only '02 or '03 up cars have the Latch system. Watch out man, having the seats facing alternating directions like you have it takes up less room. 3 seats across all facing forward might give you a problem.

I am so glad that car didn't go to waste! I wish I didn't use the SRT oiling system. With the Stratus pump, the fact that I removed the balance shafts would have made up for adding the turbo. Running 5W-20, my cold idle is almost 80psi. I'm waiting for the day when I need to scoot out into traffic b...
