Re: Anyone know the common fail points for an 04 base Neon? A?C?

OK, rains stopped for now. Went out and checked static low side pressure and was at same level as last evening. Started it up and A/c worked and got quite cold very quickly at same running range as last evening. Only concern I have is that the compressor clutch did not cycle during the plenty long t...

OK, rub it in now! Have NOT gone outdoors as of yet to check it as it's 74* and POURING straight down RAIN!
Last evening when doing it I did get a good 25* temp drop from outside temp.

Re: Don't rely on Gates for timing components...

Each has their own likes/dislikes, I admit they HAD to get better than the ones from the late 70-80's that completely turned me off on the brand. But that is a personal choice of mine from having to work on the brand way back then! And YES, it is sad that the REAL MOPAR BRAND IS DEAD and been that w...

Re: Anyone know the common fail points for an 04 base Neon? A?C?

Well, After finding out the "semi expensive" way(buying more R-134a) that my 5 year old top up reusable filler hose had bit the dust! Yes the Neon had to have the low pressure cut off switch jumpered to kick the compressor and it took 2 cans of R-134a with sealant for a total of 1.32 lbs. The A/C is...

Re: Don't rely on Gates for timing components...

NOW YOU TELL ME!.... Sorry to hear of such a catastrophe happening to you with your Subaru(I'll be polite, as I've NEVER liked the brand) Normally Gates products are more than reliable, and HIGHLY recommended on the Kia Forum I'm on for my daughters 09 Spectra. Which, by the way I did our Neon and h...

Re: Anyone know the common fail points for an 04 base Neon? A?C?

Thanks O.D., after the work today for the rear hubs and changing out the front struts(2nd time since getting it), it was TOO darned HOT out to poke around more with it about the a/c. And going to a shop for it would probably cost as much as the car is worth once again! Car will be home till 10:30 to...

Points you offered are well taken. Ones I got thru RA were near the cheapest price and others were thru auto zone(although HIGH PRICED, were CHEAP QUALITY). I guess when I order another PAIR thru RA, I'll go "Die Hard" and pop them apart and put my own grease into them before installing them.Changi...

Re: Anyone know the common fail points for an 04 base Neon? A?C?

15 years, it could be anything. Basically without a way to find refrigerant leaks, it only guessing. Thanks for the response, I'm not looking here for the "fix" to the trouble. Just curious if others have seen a particular area(evaporator, condenser, lines) that seem to be a much found trouble spot....

Anyone know the common fail points for an 04 base Neon? A?C?

Son came home from work today, asked if I had any refrigerant that the A/C was not cool. I hooked up my simple top up kit with 1lb can...would not accept any flow, saw the compressor clutch not engaging, so jumpered the connector on the accumulator at the pass. side firewall and clutch engaged but s...

Re: Rear hub bearings

Going to be hard to find the "knuckle(hub)" unless you find one on a salvage yard. I like to deal thru rock auto online.the front bearings are not very expensive and last a long time. A shop with a press can quickly swap out the bearing from the knuckle and press the drive hub back in for not much o...

Thanks BRR! Yes has ANYONE here had to replace BROKEN rear leaf springs on those type pick ups? I have and many times during my "tenure" as an auto tech, what with the road conditions and RUST BELT area...IT AIN'T NO PIECE OF CAKE like on all those 30 minute auto shows!

Re: Dodge/Chrysler News

Actually an M1 Abrams TANK would do better with the road conditions around me..A rock buggy could still get hung up or wrecked going thru some of our MANY roadway CRATERS...I believe member Black Rose Racing would "vouch" for me on how bad the roads are in the WNY area! Thank GOD it is now road repa...

To each their own in likes of certain areas...I prefer engine/drive train/suspension designed for and built for AMERICAN ROADS (potholes, craters and the like). As long as it has seats and steering/foot controls, I'm HAPPY!

Now all we need is for the Chrysler side top brass to grow some BRASS and get out of FIAT! And get back to good old AMERICAN designed and made vehicles!

Rear hub bearings

Seems that I just can't stop working on the "happy little car"! Has anyone had early wear out of the rear hub bearings? I've replaced the ones that came on the car once and another afterwards, now the other side is "growling". NO tire wear to show a "toe" or specifically a loading problem on the whe...

Re: Random posting

Being an '04 neon, swapping in the PT engine would have been relatively painless. Especially when you have the entire donor car to get all the little bits and pieces from. Well when we got the car with a blown out diff pin, the used trans was from a PT  ! And actually this little car is plent...
