I looked at modernperformance, I was able to get everything I wanted for $276, including a locking gas cap. Except for head bolts. I'll have to get a set of Fel-Pro bolts from Advance or NAPA or somewhere.

I just got off the phone with the local NAPA store, to see their prices. Some better, some not. Timing belt - $50, Gates brand. Water pump - $76.49 for a GMB brand, or $40 for NAPA / Trueflow brand. Timing belt tensioner - $109.00, NAPA / Gates brand. Head gasket - $164, it seems to be a set of gask...

Insane Mopar parts prices.

I'm planning my 100,000 mile maintenance work on my 5 SXT ATX Neon. I decided to keep and port & polish the Magnum head and Crane 12 cam. Knowing that the prices would probably be sky-high, but wanting to use Mopar OEM parts if possible, I called the local Chrysler dealers' parts department for pric...

I just have to laugh at the array of repairs-in-a-can at the local Advance Auto Parts. If something is leaking, fix it! Bars Leaks really makes a brown / purple gunky mess out of your antifreeze, and the most outrageous one I've seen is the head gasket repair in a can. I think some are good when use...

What abut for head gaskets? Is there any sealer we are supposed to spray on head gaskets, or do we just install them on clean dry surfaces as is?

Does Fel-Pro make a good SOHC head gasket?

I agree. I have taken the valves out of the Magnum head and numbered them and cleaned up most of the carbon from the head, but I have not modified anything yet, no porting or grinding at all. It's still 100% stock. I know if I were looking to buy, I'd be dubious of anyone else's port work unless it ...

What are you referring to when you say "3.0 intake"? The only 3.0 I know of is the 6G72 Mitsubishi V6 used in Chrysler vehicles in the 80s-90s.

And that intake manifold is nowhere near fitting a 4 cylinder engine!

Crane 12 - $300 new, as mine is.
Crane valve springs - $150 new, as mine are.
Magnum heads - hard to find. Took me 3 months to see an ad AND be first in line to grab it.

I'll think about it. Right now it looks like I may sell it.

I've thought about raising the compression and installing DOHC pistons, but I keep reminding myself that this will be an every day putt around town car when I move back to L.A. this autumn. And I know from prior experience it'll probably never see a dragstrip again once I move. Yes, I'll leadfoot it...

It'll be a mildly ported and polished Magnum head with Crane springs and a Crane 12 cam. I have all the parts. Let's try this again. The valves are not bent. I am referring to the valve head area that gets bent as in the above photo, and even more so I am referring to the valve stem itself. NOT.... BENT..... What I said and meant was that the intake valve GUIDES are not installed nor are they meant to be ins...

Cut them off above the valve guide and grind down the end and slide them out.

The valves ARE NOT BENT. I put 2 valves in from the top and you can see the angle between them, it's made that way. The valve stems are not parallel.

Bore it enough to get clean straight cylinder walls and no more. The extra 1 cubic inch you might get from going bigger is not worth the thinner cylinder walls.

I rented a big C shaped valve spring compressor from Advance Auto Parts, it did well at removing the exhaust valve assemblies. But I couldn't use it on the intakes. The spring / retainer tops are just a bit too close to the head casting and I couldn't get the compressor seated squarely, no matter wh...

Yes, I have done that many times on Mopar V8 and Slant 6 heads. I fold up a rag and put it in the combustion chamber of the cylinder I'm working on so the valves can't just drop down. Then whack away on it with a hammer and socket.

Assembly then becomes the problem. That trick won't work for that.

Tools to remove valves from head?

I have a Magnum head to disassemble and port/polish. I need to take the valves out. My screw-type valve spring remover can't fit in there, and the Magnum valve spring coils, touching at the bottom as they do, don't help any. I'm too cheap to buy a valve spring compressor to only use it on one head. ...

Biggest problem will be previous owners who were boy racers. You know, the type in their late teens - early 20's, they throw a couple mostly appearance mods on a car and think they are something cool while everyone else says "look at what that jackhole did to that car". They race around and think th...

Used roller rockers on a new cam?

After too much work and money, I have found all the pieces I need to tune up my 5 SXT ATX a bit. A Magnum head, a Crane 12 cam, and a set of Crane valve springs. The car already has a K&N filter, Pacesetter header, 2-1/2" Magnaflow cat, and Walker Quietflow 3 #21290 DOHC style twin outlet muffler. T...

Where can I get front floor mats for my 5 Neon SXT? I called a Chrysler dea...
