my 2000 has 193,000 kilometres on it..have not done anything major to it except for regular oil changes and plugs...just did the timing belt and water pump and idler on the weekend...my 01 show car has 157k kilometres on it and just got the engine tear down and rebuilt treatment.. i luv my neons bes...

doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the belt i watched it as the car was running...nothing has changed with the car regarding driveabilty..hasn't made any noises since and everything is fine...at least seems...been driving it for a couple of days and no issues...

Started the car this morning..didnt want to turn over and then did, heard a bang and then she ran fine...popped the hood and about a 2 cm long piece of plastic from the timing belt cover was broken off...car runs fine and everything since...why would it do this?and how?
