04 sxt check engine

Post by scfreshy » Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:19 am

I just got a new exhaust system and to no surprise the chekc engine light came on about 50 miles later. Im guessing that this is gonna start hurting performance. How bad will it be? Also ive been looking into the spark plug non fouler mod, should that fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Also im looking into an ebay intake but was wondering what type of filter to replace the crappy one that comes with it.
Any ideas?
Once again Thanks!

what exhaust system did you buy? did you replace the header? b/c if you did are you still using the stock cat...if not right there is your check engine light....

yea don't buy an ebay intake...you get what you pay for....find a user intake off the boards

ok thx for the quick replies!
I guess ill just save and get the iceman.
As for the exhaust I do not have the cat on but still passed TX inspection...the headers and downpipe are OBX, muffler is megan, I kept the stock 2.5" piping. I know Obx isnt real good but for $220 for the whole system I couldnt go wrong! it actually sounds very good and has a noticeable increase on the butt-dyno.
anyways I knew the check engine light would come on but I was wondering if it was going to cause any power loss because I am suspecting it will.
also will the non fouler mod work?
thanks

i've heard the non fouler mod works and some say it doesn't.....also since you don't have the cat on is why you have a check engine light....but you won't loose power b/c the light is on....ice man stopped making intakes for neons so you'll probably have to buy one used unless you find somewhere that still has some new ones left...

CEL on means the PCM is in default to protect the engine....
^^^
It will hurt performance and mpg...

There's nothing wrong with eBay intakes (other than the O2 sensor mounting) nor will they make you throw Check Engine lights.

Iceman does not exist for our neons anymore. You might be able to find one used, but cant buy it new anymore. I reccomend the AEM. Dont do ebay...I had one and it fell apart w/ in a year. Did not fit well either.

As I said before...
When the CEL light is on, the computer goes into a failsafe mode....
Its like you starting your windows os into safe mode Vs regular boot..
The pcm is trying to protect the motor from further damage, so it has limits,restrictions...etc...
If you drive around all day with the CEL on and think no biggy, think again....
