Revmatch, Downshift, No go....

I dont remember the car doing this before I had any modifications to the intake... It might have I dont know, but last night I was cruising along and decided to downshift with a rev match because I needed to speed up a little bit.

I dont remember what gear I was going into or if that matters but when I was in gear it was sitting at 3,000rpms, when I would try to floor it and give it gass the car would sit at 3K and just get a little louder and not really go anywhere for about 3-5 seconds. When the 5 seconds went by then it would actually start accelerating. Has anyone else had this problem or know what the hell is going on?

Thanks

It is probably you undercar neons.

:D

j/k, I am not sure if I understand what happened, so I can't answer fully, but it almost sounds like your pedal got stuck. It also sounds like maybe your clutch slipped. Check your fluid level in your tranny.

Well if the clutch slipped it would have actually revved, the tach dosent move and it dosent get really loud, just a little deeper in tone.. I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealorship because I'm on an aftermarket warranty and easycare dosent like any mods.. so if somethings wrong than of course i'll have to take my intake off and put all the stock stuff back on which would suck :-P..

Another thing is.. it dosent happen all the time, It seems to be random, and the pedal isnt stuck when it happens because i pretty much floor it

From what I've read, it's almost sounding like a quirk with the 03+ cars. Mine did the same exact thing. Not often at all, once in a great while. I had my PCM reflashed at the dealership a while ago and it's only done that once to me since then. Actually overall, the car feels alot better since that reflash.

I don't know how your warranty works, but if you can get a reflash done, do it.

Hopefully that will cure it because I can get that done free at work. What did they do to it, did they just do a drivability reflash and update the software? They should have gave you a lable on the hood, for legal reasons, saying like.. "Reflash, Part #, TSB" find out for me what reflash they did by giving me the part # please :) Its called the "Diamler Chrysler Authorization Label".

Oh could you give me the TSB# too?

probably mtx, since he downshifted and 'rev matched'. Right? Man I hope he isnt trying to do that in an ATX!!!!!

Try downing it one more gear to see what happens...
When im cruising at 60mph in fifth and I go to pass someone I normally drop it down to third and grap fourth at about 6krpm while im passing, I normally would be at 80-90mph when im back in the lane...

its the curse of the "hesitation". Happens to a lot of neon owners. seems to be more 03+ guys tho. Im almost positive its simply a computer issue that involves the motor simply being denied air and/or fuel by the PCM due to an unsolved "cut" that no one can quite put their finger on. its a bit of a mystery really, but its yet to become a big deal. Happens in my car anytime I put the clutch in while driving and then get back on the gas (especially in 1st gear). I could talk more about it, but Im going to sleep.

It happens to me, I end up flooring it, and then getting thrown back when it starts to go.

^exactly. it gets more and more clear that this is a real issue with several cars. And im nearly positive that its an 03+ issue. im not so sure its worth putting much more thought into; we all know how much tuning we can do to our stock computers

Hey, BRR... I read in my owners manual to NEVER skip a gear while shifting up or down... what do you say about that? Any reason why to not do it? I always shift into the next gear (up/down) when either acceling fast or when downshifting/rev matching. Even if it is just for a second, I will do it - never have I gone from 2nd to 4th, 3rd to 5th, etc...

Any input? Damn, I am on a hijacking spree, sorry

As for the reflash, PM me your VIN and I'll let you know if there is one out there for your car...
As for the shifting....
You must know your car and driveline....
On a daily basis here is my drive routine:

From a dead stop...
1st till about 3-4k rpm
2nd till about 3-4k rpm
3rd till about 3500-4k rpm
then 5th from there, at that point I'll be cruising 60-65mph in 5th......

From a roll at 50-60mph...
To pass someone...
I drop it to 3rd...bring it to 5500rpm-6k rpm..
Grap 4th until im done passing...
Then bring it to 5th and then slow back down to the speed limit...

From a 15mph to 25mph roll.....
Start from 2nd and then work up...
I rarely use 4th gear unless im cruising around 45-55mph....

Now for top speed thats different, I grab EVERY gear upto 6k-6500rpm or just before redline cutout and go from there....
