Hey how do you go about having a warranty done? My r/t has been having some piston slap issues...

For example when Im going up a hill and I shift into second, it sounds like a creaking ticking sound. My buddy who is a mechanic said to have them look at my bottom end! I for sure will take off my CAI and install my OEM airbox before I take it in...any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bart

id tell you not to take off the intake... its like you when were a kid and you knew you got caught... you could either be honest and still get in trouble, though im sure your parents appreciated the honesty, or lie about it and end up getting caught in the lie anyway
ive been working at a subaru dealer for over a year now, i dont know how they can tell, but trust me, THEY KNOW WHEN YOU UNINSTALLED AFTERMARKET PARTS AND REPLACED THEM WITH OEM PIECES FOR WARRANTY WORK

How much aftermarket stuff do you have? I don't know if the 2002 PCMs do the whole "learning" thing that the NGC computers do, but whether you put the stock airbox back or not, I can't see why they'd give you any grief. My understanding was that if an aftermarket part was the direct cause of a failure, then it voided coverage on that repair. I had my transmission replaced last year under warranty. I've got all the aftermarket bolt-ons and the dealership didn't even mention it.

If you need pistons and the warranty doesn't end up covering it, they will definitely get a great view of your bottom end.

sweet! all I have done to the engine is a CAI. My motor is just not sounding good! Has anyone had any of these issues with there neon? If your under the car doing a oil change in the middle there is a small leak? I'm not sure what part that is but it has a rubber piece on it....lol sorry for the un mechanicly inclined questions!! But my mechanic said it sounds like piston slap, and to have them look at the bottom end!

I get piston slap when it's cold outside. I think it's a common neon problem until the engine warms up. It should stop after a couple of minutes if it's like my neon.

Piston slapping is kind of a tick tick tick sound?
Ah my neon does that too, i think pretty much everyones does. Well, if the motor goes, imma just let the bank take it... then ill get an srt

Right on - if the aftermarket part causes a failure in another part, it's up to the manufacturer and/or installer of it to make good with you. But if you have a failure in an original part that was not directly caused by an aftermarket part that you happen to have installed, you still should be covered under warranty. It's the law - Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (
15 USC ยง2301 et seq.).
