noise!!!

Post by Panhead » Fri Aug 25, 2006 1:09 am

in bethlehem, cops wants the city to get an ordinance in place to cut down on rice burners and croch rockets. supposely, this will be happing soon. yet, i still havent gotten my glasspack and im glad cuz im re-thinking bout getting a glassspack. it will be loud, but most likely enough to get pulled over. i was wondering if anybody use a muffler along with the srt4 catback. i pretty sure its going to be quiet but still have a rumble to it. then again, i also been thinkin of selling the srt4 catback for a vibrant muffler.

alil need of advice is appreciated. thanks.

the srt exhaust is very loud un-muffled. many, if not all NA neon guys running the exhaust, or even just the rear section (axle back) install some sort of muffler. the most popular seems to be a glasspack, somewhere between 20-32" in length, to cut down on noise. I suggest a smaller one, since the larger ones might quiet the car down too much for your taste. My gf uses a 24" on heres, with great results. Its loud, but mellow compared to the straight thru version.

Yeah, i run just the rear section on my Neon. it's loud but it get quieter when pipes heat up. (might be only on my bucket) i had stock srt mid section on my car but it made it sound like Honda and slowed my air flow dramticaly, so i decided to take it off. it all depens, i'm going to put a muffler on it as soon as i'm done with my UDP, TB and I/M. i'm thinking about going with Borla muffler. Does anyone have Borla? How's performance? or i heard Magnaflow is good too.

You could always get a 2 1/4 in and out, 4" casing, 1 foot long GM resonator and probably run 2 of them.
I had one on my R/T about a year ago and it made it quieter than the glasspack, but with 2 it would be even quieter and still be a straight through design.
But then your getting into the pricing of a used backhalf vibrant etc...
I've been running a 80 series crossflow Flowmaster on my car for almost a year now with no PO-PO confilcts at all. I have the SRT tips welded onto custom bent pipe. The install looks stock....

I have the vibrant, its not loud, but its not quiet either. Its quieter than the thermal, but kind of deeper than a thermal. Louder than an RT. Does that make sense?
