i'm going to change my upper torque strut and realign my enigne to specs, do i need to use lock tight (blue compund) for the main bolts? what is the theory on this, when should this stuff be used in general?

I haven't used loctite on them and they're fine. Just make sure they're torqued to spec and you're good.
As for loctite, it's an anerobic sealant, meaning it wont cure until there is a lack of air created between the thread faces after being torqued. It's pretty much like a nylock for tapped holes, however depending on the grade it can be very strong making near permenant. Not really required for a lot of fasteners. More for those in critical area's exposed to torques that would cause the fastener to loosen as well as high vibration.
