SRT Shift boot and knob

Post by latief » Sat Oct 28, 2006 7:56 pm

i put this in the interior forum, but no one responded to it.. so i copied it to over here

i bought the shift and knob a while back, they are brand new. i want to install them on the stock neon shifter. i'm thinking about painting the stock shifter black, what do you guys think? or am i better off with a stock SRT shifter, or even one of those ebay 25$ shifters?

thanks,

The SRT knob will not fit onto the Neon shifter assembly directly, you would need an SRT Shifter assembly.

check out the threads in this section about shifters, one is titled SRT shifter and the other is titled shifter questions.

They are the same thing with they exception of the rod.

no it wont

the sxt/se shifter is very different from the srt shifter, in respect to the knob.

The way the stock Neon knobs attaches is by pusing down and twisting it over a peg, then spring pressure holds it there. On the SRT shifter it is a force fit over a small clip.

Yes, but the MPx shift knob does not attach the same way the SRT stock knob does, it uses set screws (MPx one)

Srt shift knob sucks... One good hard 1st to 2nd gear shift and your lucky if you dont throw it through your window! I would go with an aftermarket knob, I have a carbon fiber knob made by some knockoff company called dojo... Real carbon, looks sharp and uses set screws. If you went with a srt knob, i would super glue the SOB... but that would suck at a later date if you had to remove it.

The srt boot is a nice piece... And you dont have to worry about fitment.

And finally, I wouldnt paint the shifter black, thats just me though... I like the little bit of chrome showing. If you wanted something different, try taking some fine grade scotchbrite and brushing in one direction. That would kinda give the look of brushed aluminum.

I shift damn hard sometimes and I have never had a problem. However I don't pull *up* pn the knob while shifting so by doing that, I have no worries...
