heres the story,

my coworker is the one with the neon and he said his car was running fine(only 32K miles) till just after he got gas at a very busy gas station. on his way home he said that the car felt like it was gonna die at idle so he stayed on the throttle while stopped just enought to keep it from dying. once he got home it died and wont restart.

heres what i have checked. crank sensor, injectors, ASD, coil, plugs and wires, IAC. everything check is working like it should. the fuel pump does energize however since it doesnt start i cant check the fuel pressure. i did have him turn the key to start the pump while i held the pressure relief and no gas came out. i had him crank while i was still holding it down and a little bit of gas started to spit from the relief.

any ideas of what i can do next? or what the problem might be? should i drain the gas and put some new gas in it or what.

also, no engine codes

yes, it cranks just fine but wont start. one thing i forgot to mention is that we replaced the battery on it and it still wont start

i dont think it'll be the battery if it turns over fine. check to make sure you have spark. check the connector on the coil and check the spark plugs and wires. check the air filter as lack of air can make it stall. and if you get no gas, that could mean a clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump went way south.

the battery was replaced cause it wouldnt hold a charge.

like i said the plugs, wires and coil all are tested good. the air filter is brand new.

ok, i miss-read the last part. change the fuel filter, could be clogged...i highly doubt it will be the pump but who knows...if you dont hear a low whinning noise before you start the car, good chance its the pump. have someone sit right next the rear pass side tire.

Check the fuel pump relay, swap it to rule out a bad relay. Otherwise if you have no fuel at the rail its more likely the pump went bad.

like i said, the pump does come on so it cant be the relay or fuse.

could still be the pump, just because it comes on doesnt mean it's working right, i've learned that just because something turns on doesnt mean it's working correctly. It's kind of like driving around with your check engine light on. The car turns on, but it's not working properly. just my .02

try replaceing something simple, like the fuel filter...start with things that are simple, then work your way to more complexed things...i had a truck one time and rebuilt the carb cause it was very ruff at idel...all it needed with a new fuel filter...ya live, ya learn.

we got the car started with starting fluid, however, it dies once the fluid is all burned up.

i found out how to pull the codes and got a 1388 and 1684, one of those means a open or shorted condition in the asd circuit. the other was the battery being disconnected.

i need a copy of the asd wiring so i can make sure all the wiring is good. i triple checked the asd relay and fuse and they are good so i need to trace the wiring and if thats good i guess i will have to replace the pump. i think the short is somewhere in the pump.

i am doing this for an older coworker who is on a very tight budget and i myself dont have the money to buy the book, so if any one can send me a scan of the wiring, i would appreciate it
