This mornin i went to start my car and it started for a few seconds, then it died. I tried to start it a few more times w/o sucess. After about 5 mins of trying to start it, the car started fine and i havnt had any problems. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be??

I had someting like that happen once to me, when I tried to start the car and it just stopped. I thought it had something to do not enough fuel - to much air getting drawn into the engine at ignition. Then about 5 mins. later she started up and ran just fine. This is just my suspision... could't think of any other reason as to why when it happened to me. If anyone can follow up on this idea (um... am I off my rocker here?) that would be cool.

Yea the same stuff has been happining to me but its only every once in a while i wouldnt doubt if it was some stupid flaw in the ngc or somthin cause ive checked every possible thing and nothing is wrong nor is a code comin up for it.

Yeah, I've heard several instances of this... I haven't actually had it happen to me, but I'm waiting...

You didn't happen to buy those stupid solid shifter cradle bushings did you? Those things will screw you car up BIG time.
My car has done this once in a great while too. If I see it idling low enough where it's going to die, I just give it a little bit of gas, then once it catches up, I go to about 3000rpm real quick, then let off. Works every time for me.

no didnt get those bushings and yea i was doin that for awhile to just revin it to bout 3 or 4000 and then it would be fine but these last few times that didnt work and it stalled goin down a steep hill. Luckily i left it in second and just pop started it back up to stop. Im thinkin it might be all the weather changes up here since one day its 65 and the next its 40 and rainy all day. I thought it might have been a clogged cat but i had it checked also and it was fine. I figured the cel would have came on if it was clogged anyways but im not sure.

Sorry, that bushings remark was meant for DJ CptnCrnch.
04Neonsx, I'm about 9 hours east-northeast of you and the weather has been doing the same kinda stuff here. It's been the same with all my cars. Drastic weather changes always confused them. I wouldn't be surprised if that's all it is.

damn bushings !!!!!!! lol i thoguht those might be the problem...
Wow im surprised to see that a lot of people are having the same problem. The weather has been changing like 04 was saying. I thought it might have to do with the timing. I tired to give it gas this morning, but that didnt do anything, i didnt go as high as 3k tho. I hope this doesnt keep happening. I cant be without my car

yea i know how that feels, the last time it did it to me was a couple days ago so i figured i would spray some carb cleaner in my tb lol, right after i did that i let it run for 5 min and now its runnin alot better and it hasnt done it ever since. That was about a week ago.

dont know how similar this is to your situation but...
every once in a while, only happened a few times the entire time i have owned the car, my car will throw a fit when starting. if i dont hold the key long enough on the first try then it will act as though it is flooded. if you keep trying to turn it over it wont start. but then if you push the gas to the floor and turn the key it will start up after a few cranks. so it acts like it doesnt have enough air.
pretty damn weird for an efi car if you ask me.

yea mine will do that if its runnin hot and you go to start and it will hesitate to climb to 900rpm i usually just turn the key a tiny bit longer and it will do the normal jump to 12 or 1300rpm start. But what really sucked was that the last time it did this was on a cold start and i hate tryin to rev the engine before theres enough oil pressure so that pissed me off.

its really not that big of a deal if you dont let it rev too high.
the way we start our race car for the first time on race day is:
- one person standing over the carb with a can of starter fluid and another in the car.
- the person in the car turns on all the switches (fuel, water, ignition, etc) and then pushes the start button and opens the carb up all the way.
- the person on the outside shoots a little starter fluid in there and vrrrrrmmmmmmm.
- i would usually catch it before 2500 or 3000 rpm (that engine likes to rev a bit)
now even though this is a race motor, a large oil pressure spike is a large oil pressure spike. this engine produces ~50psi cold.

My car did that once or twice, ever since then I make sure I turn the key to "on" so the fuel pump primes for a second, then I start it. So far I haven't had a problem doing it like that.

The older Dodges used to have a feature where if the ECU saw WOT during cranking, it would actually shut the injectors off in an attempt to clear a flooded condition. This was common with the piece of crap TBI setup that used to be on the 2.2/2.5 motors. By what you said, I guess the newer ECU's still have that.

My car does the same thing at startup as well as it dosent want to take fuel anymore. After the fuel handle clicks I have to keep forceing fuel in until it reads at full. Usually after it ckicks I fill about 2.5 to 3 more gallons.....My car drives fine but on startup it will jump to 1100 and then drop to like 300 and studder and shake and then it will climb back up and remain

What's everyone's milage that this is happening to?
My g/fs plymouth neon has been experiencing some problems. Her car runs fine, idles fine, just every once in awhile it WILL NOT start for the life of the damned thing. No codes, spark it good, fuel is good, battery's fine... It's got me lost.
It wont fire for a good number of times, then all of a sudden after it sets for a couple of minutes, it starts right up.
off topic

This is a little off topic but has any thrown a check engine light in the cold. Its really weird. When its really cold, even if my temp is normal and i get on it. The check light came on, the really weird part is its happened on the same hill 2 times but no where else its got my mind boggled if you ask me i really have no idea idk if its the aem or what. But this is only when its really cold out to like 20 degrees outside.

does everyone, that has had the problem with not starting, have a CAI??
This never happened before I added my AEM.
Opi- I was at about 30k mileage when it happened

Nope, on her car it's 100% stock. It didn't start happening until about 2 or 3 months ago... and it's still completely random from what I can tell.

Mine, once in a great while, will just kinda gurgle around 4-500rpm, but when I give it gas once, it's fine. I personally have never had it where it wouldn't start at all. I've got an Iceman/K&N setup for the hell of it.

ive had similar problems in the past, none recently, but my neon is ATX and has stalled on me in the past... ???.... and lately it idles pretty low and i feel slight vibrations. the only other neon ive felt that in had a UDP, so it was pretty normal, but i dont have one, so ive kinda been wondering if that's something i should worry about

I have 33,000 miles and my car was completely stock when this all happened but it hasnt happened since i put the CAI on so i'm waitin to see what happens.

i have 38k on the car. I have an AEM intake, but i havnt added any new mod recently. I tune up my car on a regular basis and check the fluids too. Nothing out of the ordinary. I have a oil change coming up soon, so i guess i will try to put something in the oil and maybe the gas and see if that helps
No new mods scheduled until next spring, then i get to tear about the engine and see if anything has gone bad. I get to put in my new mag head, FF LTH, wideband AF and new SAFC....:sigh: i cant wait until next spring

the first time it did it all i had was a K&N drop in....but i figured it wouldnt crank cause my filter was dirty so i put the mopar filter back in and it still does it every once and awhile.

hmm i havnt cleaned my filter for a little bit, i wonder if that has anythign to do with it. I will clean in next oil change

Mine started at about 45,000. I am at 60k right now and I just did an oil change and tranni fluid change as well as new plugs....Maybe I should invest in a new coil pack and some good wires and see if that helps any but that still wouldnt explain why my car dosent want to take gas
