2gen powerband
So where's the powerband on a 2gen? Specifically on an 05 atx. Any mods that help it stay in its powerband?

uhhh if you mean where is your power the highest at, i know mine on my 00 manual is between like 4-6 about, i dont really check my limiter but i listen to when i should shift mostly. youd have to drive your car around and watch when you feel the power kick in and start to die out. its a neon though so not much power will be noticable stock.

mine is from 4k+ at about 5k it jumps BIG time, but of course that is because of the secondaries opening up.

on my 03 sxt manual it picks up from about 4000-4500 and pulls hard until about 6K and then it falls off.
Here is a quick run down of the HP from the only dyno I have done on my car. I had an AEM CAI, MPx UDP, and Vibrant muffler at the time.
2500 rpm = 50hp
3000 rpm = 60hp
3500 rpm = 75hp
4000 rpm = 92hp
4500 rpm = 108hp
5000 rpm = 116hp
5200-5300 rpm = 119hp (peak)
5500 rpm = 116hp
6000 rpm = 112hp
dyno cut off @ 6000 rpm even though I took it to redline (6750)
the print out I have does not have the torque curve but my torque was around 127 ft lbs...but I can't remember where torque peaked...I think it was 4500-5300 range.

the stock torque peak is somewhere around 4600rpm i believe, and the hp in the mid 5k range. With my mods, i feel the most kick at about 4k-5k, and it feels like it drops off after 6k. Its the low range that makes the neon a fun car tho, so the 4k rush is just a bonus for us CAI/exhaust people. Those two mods seemed to definatly help in that range.

i just got back from a little joy ride and my friend and i wanted to see where my neon's powerband is. personally i felt it to fluctuate a little. maybe its just me. most of the time like around 3k i felt it pick up speed and at 4k it starts pulling up until 5.3k where it just doesnt pull any harder. isnt there like a certain gear or speed in which the engine can accelerate better from it or something?

my car seems to pick up wonderfully in second, but the gearing is only as good as the rpm its spinning at. For example, if youre cruising around town in second gear at apprx 3k-4k rpm and you stomp the throttle, thats prob the best job of pinning you to your seat a neon can do. the lower three gears are best for accelleration, and though the neons fourth is pretty good as well, the car simply doesnt have the power to accellerate quickly, regardless of speed. I will be the first to admit that the neon is one of the best 5th gear accellerators ive driver (in its class of course). At about 70mph and at WOT my neon has no problem jammin to 90 and beyond, in not more than a few seconds too.

oh hell yeah neons have good last gear acc. even my 4 speed 05 can "haul ass" up to 90 from a 70 roll lol. i took your words for it and on the way back from the gym i decided to cruise in 2nd gear @ around 3-4k like you said and yeah my neon seems "alive" in that range. i REALLY hate that "smooth" transfer into higher gears that atxs have grr it bogs the car down SOOOO much.
there isn't a way to get rid of this is there?
off topic a little: my pal Eric got his 95 trans am back from the shop today and i finally got to see it in action. he whooped my 4 banger's butt badly lol. but what can you expect? LOL very nice car

That was with and without the chip...I think the weight of the chip offset the performance gain so I broke even...
Finally got my mag header on. Want to pick up a 60mm tb after the new year and then take it back to the dyno and see if I picked up anything.
After that it will be awhile before I can make any more performance mods. Will need to collect mag head and cam gear, timing belt, and all that jazz to put in along with the mag cam and springs. Want to do it all at once. Maybe even drop in some different pistons to bump compression a little.
